I have a question, I know that my great uncle Lawrence Girgen was in Butte Montana in 1944. Someone told me that in 1930 he was in the Polk Directory. I actually have the street address. How can I find out any more information from the Polk Directories in Montana or in records in Montana. Did they have Social Security in 1944. I know he came to Houghton for his brother's (my grandfather's funeral) in 1944. I saw it in an old newspaper under copper country socials at the Finnish American Heritage Center. Hi Jean, He is in the 1920 census for Montana.Lawrence GERGEN age 52, roomer, German, and a miner.He may have died before the S.S. came into effect.Try to enter his first name and his birthdate only and search every state.You may find his name spelled different.
