    3. I too am searching for my Norweign relatives - the Ericksons and Oplands. I know my Erickson relatives came from Hammerfest (Finnmark) and settled in Calumet. The head of the family was Haldon (Haldore/Halvor) son of Eriks who was born in Rotaas, Finnmark, Norway in 1841 and died, date unknown, in Calumet, Michigan. He was married to Johanna (Johanne) Johnson who was born in Hammfest in 1843 and died in Calumet, date unknown. Both burial sites are unknown. They traveled on the DS Norway from Trondheim around May 30, 1872. Haldon and Johanna had nine children: John Lewis (Ludvig), my grandfather, William, Emma, Mary, Elieser, Peter, Robert, Anna and Hilda. John Lewis Erickson was born in Hammerfest, Norway on March 22, 1868 and died January 8, 1919 in Calumet, Michigan. He worked in the C&H Machine shop and married EVINA OPLAND, daughter of Ole Opland, Nov 4, 1899 in Calumet, Mich. They had six children" Irving Grant, Mildred, Milton John, George Mortimer (my dad), Marguerite Ellen Draeger and Edward Theodore, all now deceased, Any information on my Erickson great grandparents and great uncles and aunts would be appreciated. I know my grandmother EVINA OPLAND was born 6 Aug 1873 in Vefsen, Mosjoen, Norway and died 24 Sep 1968 in Calumet. She and her husband John are both buried in Lakeview cemetary, Calumet but I have no information on her father Ole or her mother whose name is unknown to me. I too know Evina had a sister Mary and brothers Edwin, Martin and Alfred Opland. We believe Martin remained in Vefsen and know Alfred came to Calumet and later moved to Escanaba. I know nothing of Alfred's family or anything about the other siblings. I have reason to believe my later aunt, Marguerite Erickson Draeger visited the Oplands in Vefsen and had contact with an Ove Risrem who could be descended from Martin Opland. Any tie-ins with the other Oplands of Calumet would be appreciated. While visiting Lakeview cemetary and the Erickson plot, I noticed an Opland plot directly across the road from our plot but didn't recognize any names and couldn't determine any relationship. I am in contact with a distant cousin in California and she and I are both trying to learn more about our Opland family but hitting firewalls. Living in Colorado doesn't permit me easy access to the Copper Country resources. I have also hired a professional researcher in Norway through the "Sons of Norway", Any insight on any of these relatives would be appreciated.
