Hi Ron Have you used Trond Ballo's site? http://home.no.net/~tballo/ On the left side , click on Hammerfest and another window will open. Then click on the E's, you will find your family there. Note that it is spelled Eriksen. I have an old Polk index 1895- 1896 and Halvor is in it , living at 4316 Oak st. in Calumet, miner. Also at the same address is Eli a fireman, , Miss Hilda, John machinist, Peter surface man, Rudolph a drill boy and William a butcher. I can't find Halvor in 1900 so he may have died between the years of the Polk index and the 1900 census. http://www.rhd.uit.no/folketellinger/folketellinger_e.aspx Here is the census for Norway, I have a difficult time using it as I am not sure what town is where. You might have more luck. http://www.mfhn.com/houghton/index.html Houghton has a pretty good search engine, type in last name on main search. There is also a link to Newspaper transcriptions. You have to search through every one. I posted this previously about the Opland's. I have original Fremad ledger from the Norwegian society that was here. The earliest member was in Oct of 1890 Peter Opland age 30 born Fladanger ,his sponsor was Iver Opland on Feb. 1891 There are two entries written in for Iver and Elias Opland but no information is given on them at that time. Mathias Opland 29 born in Bjomar? NOrway and his sponsor was Mrs M. Opland , Nove 20 1890 Elias Opland 34 born Fladnger? Norway sponsor Mrs E Opland April 16, 1899 Iver Opland 34 born Fladnger? Norway sponsor Albertine Opland March 18, 1900 Bertram Opland 22 born Opland Norway , sponsor Peter Opland on Dec 1908 Mat. Opland 33 born Flatanger Norway sponsor Mrs Mat. Opland Dec 13, 1908 Peter Opland 39 born Stindalen? sponsor Mrs Amanda Opland on Jan 10 , 1909 BTW, in 1900 Evina states that she was born in Norway, not Michigan. 1910 United States Federal Census about Arina Erickson Name: Arina Erickson Age in 1910: 37 Estimated birth year: abt 1873 Birthplace: Norway Relation to Head of House: Wife Father's Birth Place: Norway Mother's Birth Place: Norway Spouse's name: John Home in 1910: Calumet, Houghton, Michigan Marital Status: Married Race: White Gender: Female Year of Immigration: 1889 Neighbors: View others on page Household Members: Name Age John Erickson 41 Arina Erickson 37 Irvin Erickson 10 Milton Erickson 5 George Erickson 10/12 I will get my Fremad ledger out and see if any of yours are listed. They may be buried in Lakeview but it is closed in the winter. You would have to call in the spring and ask as they have it in a computer database which my Aunt helped out with. I think that they are one of the few cemeteries that I know of who have not let this data be put on line. I got the Calvary cemetery in Ahmeek from the late Bill Loukkonen township supervisor.
