There should be enough links on the main genweb site to tell you about the archives and so on -- be sure to check the schedules, there are some limitations on days available, as I recall. I had done some research there before on my own, but dragged my husband back to do some of the more touristy things. The mine tour outside Hancock really is interesting. We also stayed in the copper baron's house, a b & b, in Calumet. Poke around, you'll find it. We kept going up to Copper Harbor, really beautiful. Did a little hiking, saw the lighthouses, drove up the mountain, very nice. I was there last summer. If I recall well, I had to call and make an appointment at the court house. They have limited space and only allow a few researchers at one time. Also check the hours at the MTU Archives, since they vary by day of the week. Hello all, As you may have heard, two documentary filmmakers (Ken Ross and Louis Galdieri) have been working on a film about the Italian Hall Massacre. They are in the time-consuming process of editing the film; however, the lack of funding has caused the project to slow considerably. This event is important to many with Copper Country roots which makes this project all the more significant. When completed, the documentary will be a television-quality piece and could potentially raise awareness of this event to a large audience. If you are capable, please consider making a donation to the project. You can make a secure online donation by visiting the following website: https://secure.groundspring.org/dn/index.php?aid=10065 Be sure to specify "1913 Massacre Film Project" on the "Purpose of donation" section. If you need a physical mailing address, please let me know. If you would like to read more about this project, please visit the documentary's website at: www.1913massacre.com Clips from the movie can be viewed at the following links: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kbLl4mvkEY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6A8p0mHp14 Best regards, Clint Drake

Martin Flens was my Great Great Grandfather, so I'm guessing that you may have met (possibly) my dad or uncles (Helen's grandsons) if you came to the Cleveland area. Can you share any info on what you found at Ellis Island? I have seen (at least online) where Martin came over in 1873 (off the top of my head) and then somehow went back, and then again arrived back in Calumet. I see that Victoria and 4 kids came over in 1897. Do you have these documents from Ellis Island? Keep this blog going, let's help our ancestors live again. I have limited "hard copies" of anything but if I can figure out how to send them I will. I have a lot of memories/tales/stories from Martin's daughter Stefania, my "babcha?" I also see that another person last name Montgomery is looking for info on Martin Flens. That name I've heard before from some relative in Cleveland, Ohio that my parents and grandmother and I visited years and years ago.
