Thank you so much! My first search found the death certificate of my great grandfather that I hadn't been able to find for over 30 years! While it indicated mother and father unknown, I am finally able to record the exact cause and date of his death. It also provided me the county (and country for sure) in which he died (I had been torn!). Thank you all for all of the wonderful advice. This thread will also be great for all future visitors to the Houghton area. I'll be sure to call ahead to the court house. By chance, does anyone know if Ryan Funeral Home is still in operation? I was in contact with them a couple of years ago, but their e-mail address does not seem to work anymore. It seems that they were my familiy's funeral home of choice and I would like to contact to inquire about obtaining some additional records from them. Thanks Again! Make sure you check out the hours for MTU's archives because they vary. You should probably research at any churches your family attended. Call ahead to set up those appointments. I have yet to do that research myself. The secretary was not in when I was visiting. Tourist Site: The Quincy Mine tour. Great tour, not sure if they are open all year round. I prefer the Delaware Copper Mine Tour to the Quincy tour. The Quincy tour is more fancy and has a nicer view, but the Delaware tour is more representative of what most of the mines looked like. You can also see the Keweenaw fault line inside of the Delaware shaft and there is a pet skunk at the gift shop. --- On Wed, 4/22/09, Martin, Joseph <MartinJo@lewisu.edu> wrote: From: Martin, Joseph <MartinJo@lewisu.edu> Subject: Re: [MIHOUGHT] Calumet Visit To: mihought@rootsweb.com Date: Wednesday, April 22, 2009, 6:35 PM I was there last summer.
