I attended Sunday school at the Norwegian Lutheran Church on 7th Street in Calument in the late 1950s, early 1960s with Eric Opland. Eric was a year or two older than I was, thus his birth would have been 1951 or 1952. My mother was acquainted with Eric's mother. My older sister still resides in the area and is quite familiar with the church, its records and its early members. You may email me privately with your request. I will forward your request on to my sister. family.names@gmail.com. Gary Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The history is following. John Olof Johnson b.20/12 1884 in Sweden moved around 1910 to Hancock. He died there 26/12 1912 leaving a widow and one son Joh(a)n Sigurd b. 24/10 1910. four months after John Olofs death a daughter is born Lydia Sophia (b. 10/4 1913). The familys destiny is unknown for me, but a couple of days ago I found following information. -John Olofs widows first name was "Hilta" (her maiden name is unknown) -Joh(a)n Sigurd was baptized on new year's day January 1st, 1911 in Hancock. -Joh(a)n Sigurds godparents were Peter and Liinu Järvi and Jacob and Maggie Vuopio. - Ive found Jacob Wuopio he was born in sweden 1880 and married 18/9 1909 to Kreeta B. Hamalainen(b. 1883)in Calumet, Houghton, Michigan. In the census 1930 (Hancock) one can read: Jacob Wuopio 49 born in Sweden Margaret Wuopio 48 born in Finland son Reynold Wuopio 14 daughter Adrienne Wuopio 13 is it possible to find/identify Hilta and the children based on the mentioned information? Godparents should be close to the family, hopefullt they keept contackt after John sr. death.
