Hi, I bought someone's very old large Finnish bible yesterday.I am trying to place the family. There were names of births and deaths recorded in it but no last name. The bible itself it in terrible shape.Of interest was a key imbedded in the pages, there is no evidence of a lock having been on the bible. There are other newspaper cutouts but i cannot read them as they are in the old flowery script. If by chance a family member is reading this, contact me at home.Otherwise it will go to Finlandia archives. Does anyone who subscribes to the census have any idea what ed# any of these might be in? It is like trying to find the proverbial needle in the haystack. Thanks, Alicia
>From Calumet Copper Country Metropolis Feb.1,1901 <snip> Today nearly every denomination that is know to Christians has a house of worship. ...the next new church will be the Croatian Catholics who have been attending St.Joseph's Austrian church in Red Jacket....It is only sixteen years ago since the first family of Croatians came here and this was Mathias Lucas. The second ..was in 1886 , John Gasparovitch who is doing business in the Aselin block on Sixth st. Gasparovitch was the frist Croatian married in Calumet.

Hi, Just a warning to ALL of you to update your virus protection now if you do not do so on a daily habit. The new bugbear virus finally reached America .I was sent it this morning from a foreign address in Europe. I normally do not do warnings but the Klenz virus was rampant a bit back, that some may be unaware of this new one.Thank goodness for automatic updating! Alicia

Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg//2FB.2ACI/1770 Message Board Post: Last year at the Lakeview Cemetery in Calumet i took a photo of a marker for Gust Monson , died 1908.I had taken it as it struck me as being unusual, partly of sandstone. In the new book, Calumet ,Copper Country Metropolis i found this, June 4, 1908. Fatal accident..in Calumet yesterday afternoon..Gust Monsin a foreman loader in the C&H mine was struck over the head by a pice of timber while unloading it from a railroad car, and was killed instantly. If anyone has the Monson name i would be happy to send them a real picture of email "photo". Alicia
You could try the diocese offices in Marquette. If the records had gone to the Sacred Heart Church in Calumet, you may be out of luck as they had a fire and most of their records are gone. Good luck. Wow! Sture has added maps and is donating an English version of each of the files he has put online at: http://www.mfhn.com/houghton/finn/s_torikka/WhyDidTheyGo.asp Colleen has added an index to the females listed in Amerikan Suomalainsten Historia II Ja Elämäkertoja http://www.mfhn.com/houghton/finn/ilmonenII/default.asp I still have (some is not correct for the amount-grin) new files that are being formatted to go online. Will let the list know as they go up. Time for a cup of coffee. Pat
You just gave me a new clue to follow. My grandfather was born out of wedlock, I believe. He was born in 1890, and his family was Catholic. I have been looking for Baptismal info at the located Catholic churches and can find no info. But I did not know of St. Anthony Of Padua. I know he was baptized. Do you have any info where the records from St Anthony's went? thanks for help
Minneapolis is pretty big, so difficult to find in 1910 census unless you can find an address first and then try to identify enumeration districts. If they were still alive in 1920, it would be much easier to find them then, when you can look in the Soundex, and zero right in on them. If you must have 1910, it might be easier to look in the Minneapolis City Directory first, then find e.d. districts by city ward on map. However, I wouldn't start looking through 1910 lightly, it's still not an easy deal. These are available through LDS, unless you live there and can go to the Minnesota History Center. Want a really hot deal for Minnesota? Check out the Minnesota Death Record Index online at http://people.mnhs.org/dci/search.cfm the death records are currently indexed and on microfilm from 1908 to 1966. Unbelievably, they say they are going to have it go up till 1996 on Nov. 1. You order from MHS for $8 (cheaper than the $12death records through the county). If you go there, it's the price of the copy, 25 cents. Linda in Minneapolis --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). While I don't have any info for your particular recent LaBerges, they are ALL related, all trace back to Robert de la Berge and Francoise Gosse. You will have to use the usual methods to get back to Quebec, but once you do -- look at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~laberge and check out some of us relatives :) Linda --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. My Polish families lived in Red Jacket/Tamarack/Calumet from about 1885 to 1913. I have found some graves in the Lakeview Cemetery outside of Calumet. These folks attended St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church which is now closed. I cannot find some other graves at Lakeview. Would anyone know other possible cemeteries in the area where Polish Catholics might have been buried? Thanks for any assistance. Joseph Martin Romeoville, IL
