    1. Re: [MIHOUGHT] NICHOLSON Family
    2. Sheila: I have some data on Duncan Nicholson. He married my grandmother's half sister, Margaret(te) Ruhl (b abt 1862). They had three children: John (b ?) He married Leora ? Harriet "Hattie" b 2/18/1887, d 8/10/1985 Orange Couty, CA, She married Walter Carsten(s) and had a daughter named Mildred. Mildred first married George Dodge and had a daughter named Patricia "Patsy". She subsequently married a man named Hall and had a daughter named Suzy. Edith b 2/1/1891 d 5/6/1991 Los Angeles. She married William R. "Will" Thomas. They had a son named Raymond who now lives in Phoenix. I understand that Margrette died either in childbirth or shortly after the birth of Edith. Ducan later committed suicide by shooting himself in front of Edith when she was about six (abt 1897). My grandmother (then about 16) raised the children. I don't remember ever meeting John but I do remember his wife Leora as well as Edith and Hattie. Bob Peck California

    1. [MIHOUGHT] NICHOLSON Family
    2. Hi List, My great grandparents were William & Kate Nicholson. Children I have found so far are John b 1855, Duncan b 1860, Kate b 1866, Sarah b 1867, Donald b 1872, & Neil b 1875. The family immigrated first to Canada in the early 1860's and then onto the Houghton area to work in the copper mines around 1865. They came from the Isle of Skye in Scotland. I know that there was family in Manitoba, Canada who worked in the lumber industry, but my branch of the family remained in Michigan. I am hoping there is someone who might have some details about this family. One thing I am trying to find out is if Kate's maiden name was Robertson, to make sure I am on the right track of the family in Scotland. I would love to hear any other bits of family history or advice that anyone might have. Thanks, Sheila

    3. The records from St. Anthony's Church are now in the archives at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Calumet. I am not sure about the access to them today. Many years ago when I first started research, I had good success in obtaining records. I know there is a new pastor now, and I do not know how he views family researchers. I do not believe that the records have been filmed. Happy hunting.
