Seeking information on the family of Ralph Walter and Elizabeth Hoyt Coon. Both died in 1944 in Houghton. They had two girls: Naomi and Ruth. Naomi married Fred J. Pappe. Ruth married E.F. Patton. Both girls were single according to the 1930 Houghton County, Michigan census. In Elizabeth's obit, it lists Ruth as living in Canada. Ralph was a barber by trade. His mother's name was Hetty Martin. I do not know what happened to Hetty, but think she died prior to 1900. Ralph was supposed to have a half-brother named Timothy Sullivan who also lived in Houghton. Juvanne Martin

I'm having a terrible time finding my great grandparents. Their names were John and Elizabeth Girgen. I recently found out that my grandfather, their son was named Joseph Gotfred Görgen. I always thought his name was Fred Girgenl My great grandmother Elizabeth was here until 1904 when she died. Can anyone check and see if they can find either Elizabeth or John anywhere? thanks Jean

I am sorry, I am not longer in the Detroit area. The Burton Collection at the main Detroit public library should have the records you need. I think my father worked at the Atlas Powder company. He was subsequently transfered to the Atlas Powder Company in Giant (near Richmond) California. His name was Rudolph Otto Smith. Could there be a relationship also?His father was Fred Smith and mother was Rebecca Getchell Smith. Long time copper country and Houghton residents. Thnks much.
