Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/2FB.2ACI/1890 Message Board Post: I am searching for information on Jacob and Lizzie (Kaisa) Kargela. I know they came from Kemi, Finland. They were the parents of my great grandma Mamie (Mae) Kargela who married John Rowe. I was unable to find any type of marriage or naturalization paperwork for them at the Houghton County Courthouse. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks Connie

    3. Here !Here!! I agree completely. Sometimes you need help with things you don't have access to but when so much of this is on line, in the libraries and LDS, it's very exciting to find your own. ----- Original Message ----- From: "lindather" <lindather@prodigy.net> To: <MIHOUGHT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, February 06, 2003 6:26 PM Subject: [MIHOUGHT] Census info > Can't help commenting on all the census lookup requests--- > People, remember to look at the links for the Houghton County page. > The 1870 census is linked with images, and searchable. > The 1880 census is searchable at the LDS site, which is also linked. > Things like the other census info, 1910, and so on, are available from the LDS -- you can find one near you by going to their site and putting in your town name --or Michigan Historical Society and other sources. > > Genealogy is the most fun when you do the research yourself. Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg//2FB.2ACI/1889 Message Board Post: The 1910 Census for Chassell, Houghton Co., MI. shows Mary Carpentier with son Adelor LaBerge. I am pretty sure this is Marie Colpron LaBerge who must have remarried. Does anyone know of a second marriage to a Carpentier for Marie? Marie definitely had a son Adelor. Marie is my husbands great grandmother, died in Chassell April 7, 1913.

    3. Can't help commenting on all the census lookup requests--- People, remember to look at the links for the Houghton County page. 3. Hi Jean, I think i am confused. ) Are you asking about the Mattson family i found in the census or are you asking me to look in the census for John Gershen? It would mean going through many pages, there are 61 in just Hancock, and more than that in Adams, Franklin and Quincy. Can you give me a specific area they lived in? 3. It is possible that someone may have specific info, but otherwise you will have to do the research. You may be able to get birth dates from the death records-- you can get them from the County as on the links to the Houghton County site. French-Canadians are in general very easy to research -- see the great link on French-Canadian research in Houghton County done by John DuLong, linked from main page. If you have the names of the grandparents who were married in Quebec with maiden name of mother, you can find a Loiselle marriage index somewhere, including through the LDS, to find their marriage (and their parents' names). 3. The 1910 census is not on the soundex, only the 1920 and 1930 are.As far as i know, the boarder were included on the census. I see many boarders listed as i page through. It is tedious, but you have to just page though them .Depending on what month the census was taken, they may have been with relatives before the move. Alicia > I have had no luck in finding my ancestor in the 1910 census they are not listed in the soundex. I have just recently heard that if you were living in a boarding house that all of the names were not indexed. Is this true?? His Grandparents are listed in the census as coming from "Canada(fr)". All four of these people are also listed in the 1900 census for Cheboygan. 3. For the Minnesota ones, check out the Minnesota Death Index online now indexed 1908-1996. It also now has a search by maiden name of mother for something like 1956-1996 -- but they're not all indexed. http://people.mnhs.org/dci/Search.cfm Be sure to try lots of different spellings, or a soundex search. Watch out, there are some tricky ones, like indexing by Mrs. Ann So-and-so (under M), and some transposed characters...
