    2. Do you find any Anthony or Frances Ternes(or varied spellings) on the German to America CD? I believe that they came over from Germany in the 1860's. Thanks! Laurel Ternes

    3. No, this project has been around for about 3-4 years I think, but their server was down for a long time. Seems like around a year that it was down. They had data for different counties so it is good to bookmark and check it out every so often. The records they have are free to researchers. I have no idea who the lady was as I have never seen her name before, so can't help out with that at all. 1. [MIHOUGHT] John and Dora MESSNER
    2. Cat Nielsen
    3. I am hoping someone on the list is researching the Messner's and might be able to fill in some of the blanks. I am seeking information on the parents and siblings of John MESSNER and Anna MESSNER. According to the 1900 Census of Houghton County (Osceola Twp) John was born in Michigan Mar 1863. He is living with his mother Selma, who according to the census was born Aug 1849, Wis. However, on John's line it says both his mother and father were born in Germany. John is married to Dora ? They married ca 1895. Living with them is John's nephew Russell John Messner, who he and Dora are raising. Russell's mother is Anna born ca. 1880 who eventually married William Zinther and lived in Duluth (St. Louis) Minnesota. According to the 1900 census Selma is the head of the household, married 31 years, with 6 children who were all still living. In the 1880 census I can not find a Selma Messner. In the 1880 census Anna's born 1880 do not have a mother Selma, or an older brother John. In the 1880 census the John's with a birth year near 1863, do not have a sister Ann?, and if they do, there are more than 6 children in the family. There is a Selma Messner, born Dec 1866 in Mich (parents born Germany), who is in Saint Nicholas Hosp. Sheboygan, Wis. Might she be John and Anna's sister? John and Dora are buried at Maple Hill, So. Lake Linden. I have a photo of the gravestone but it does not have their death dates. But, it is a fairly "modern" stone. John and Dora wrote to Russell during WWI when he was stationed in Russia and supposedly visited him in Calif. in the 1930's and possibly 1940's. I think Selma was still alive while Russell was in Europe. If no one has this family in their research, could someone check the death index at the courthouse and look for the death dates for John, Dora and Selma? Thank you, Cat Nielsen Berkeley, CA
