    1. Re: [MIHOUGHT] Naturalization Info.
    2. Joseph Martin
    3. Hi Tom, Your message reminded me of something my grand uncle used to say. "Believe only half of what you see and none of what you hear." I have three times received different naturalization records from the court house in Houghton County, Michigan. If I remember well, the last time there was an $8.00 fee. I do not recall if they have an index, but the available census records gave me an approximate year. If they do not have the record you are seeking, consider the possibility that your ancestor was naturalized in another location - even just the next county over. 2. Tom
    3. For some time I have been on a quest in search of the naturalization file relating to William Metsa. First I wrote to the county clerk, whose response was that they could not find that name. Late I tried an e-mail query to MTU, but was referred right back to Houghton. After that was a mail request to the INS in D.C. Nearly one year later the response was that his William is not in their files either. My latest attempt was an e-mail to the Michigan State Library reference librarian. I was informed that neither the State Archives, State Library, nor Houghton County possess naturalization files for residents of Houghton Co. The State Library did suggest that I look into the nearest branch of the National Archives, as well as the Federal District Court (Marquette). I have to say that I was very pleased by the quick and informative response of the State Library staff. I wanted to pass this along in case others might be thinking of trying to locate naturalization files of an immigrant who was living in Houghton Co. At least you could narrow your search a little bit. Has anyone here looked for naturalization documents in a Federal District Court? My work schedule prevents me making a phone call to Marquette to inquire whether or not they hold naturalization files, and if so how copies might be obtained. Tom Osborn Rancho Santa Margarita, CA

Surnames: Bonds, Morell Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/2FB.2ACI/1930 Message Board Post: I am looking for any information relating to John & Mary Ann Bonds, who came from England around 1867. The only information I have is John was born in 1843 and died in Michigan in 1924. Mary Ann died 13 days later. Their Children are Mildred, Albert & Frederick - however I am curious to know if they had more. I have no information on Albert or Frederick, but Mildred married Aldrich Morell, who worked for the Michigan Telephone Company in Houghton. Mildred and Aldrich lived a short time in Red Jacket. If anyone has information, please let me know.

    3. Marion, 611 Dacota has got to be a misprint as Dakota (notice it is now spelled with a 'k") Street is only 3 blocks long. It runs North-South with the street numbers ranging from the 100's to the 300's from South to North. If Dakota Street was to continue North (uphill) the 400 block would slice right through Finlandia University's "Old Main" which was dedicated on January 21, 1900! --Mb Mary Beth Knuuttila, Archives Assistant Finnish-American Historical Archives Finlandia University 601 Quincy Street Hancock, MI 49930 U.S.A. I had a great Grandmother named Elizabeth Kott, (don't know maiden name) she came from Germany. She was married to Frrank(Francis) Kott. They had 3 daughters and in 1881 two of the girls died in a day or two of each other. Being Catholic it seemed awful funny that the one was burried on a Sunday. Someone says it was because of a epeidemic. well I found there death records etc. BUt all of a sudden Elizabeth is gone and in 1883, another daughter is born, to Mother (Rosialia) So Elizabeth Must have died but there is no where else for me to look for a record. They were affilated with St.Alberts Church. I don't think it is still in existence. Is there any way to find out who has the records. Can't imagine that G Grandfather didn't bury her along with the girls. The girls had seperate graves also. Again, any help would be really appreciatated. I llive in the state of Washington, so I can't get tollthe Burton Lib. Thank You in advance Nancy Cosgrove

    1. [MIHOUGHT] 1900 census lookup for McLeod

    3. If anyone has access to the 1900 census, I would appreciate a look up for A. R. McLeod. Alll I know about him is that he sent my grandmother a photograph taken by Merman Studio in Calumet. Unfortunately, I have no idea what the A. stands for and there seem to have been several A. R. McLeod. His wife or his daughter might have been named Christy as I remember my mother talking about a Christy McLeod. TIA Marion Markham

    3. I have a photograph taken at Merman Studio in Calumet, probably around 1890. It was sent to my grandmother by Mr. & Mrs. A. R. McLeod. Might there still be any records from that studio? I am sure that they were related to my gr-grandmother McLean but I can't make the connection. Marion Markham
