Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg//2FB.2ACI/2458 Message Board Post: My great grandfather, Nicholas KAPTUR, was born in Mieczewo, Poznan (Posen) Poland on 1 September 1861. He was the son of Kasper KAPTUR and Franciszka ROZMIAREK. He arrived in the US on 24 May 1887 at Castle Garden in New York. He traveled on the ship "Elbe" from Bremen. He and his family lived in Calumet, Houghton, Michigan until 1903 when they moved to Detroit. He was naturalized in Detroit on 14 September 1906. Nicholas was married to Marcyanna SKIBINSKI at St. Wojciech Church in Bnin, Poznan, Poland on 20 February 1887. Marcyanna was born on 22 January 1862 in Mieczewo, Poznan (Posen), Poland. She was the daughter of Tomasz SKIBINSKI and Franciszka WOJKIEWICZ. She arrived in the US with her daughter Constancia in 1888. Nicholas worked at the Tamarack Mine in Calumet and at General Motors in Detroit. He and his wife had the following children: Constancia (6 Feb 1888), Nicholas (4 Sept 1889), Peter (28 Apr 1891), Helen (6 May 1892), Vincent (13 Jul 1895), Frances (21 Jan 1! 898), Pelagia (16 Jan 1901), Joseph (26 Feb 1904), Emily (1 Jun 1906), and Edward (27 May 1912). Nicholas died on 11 November 1933 and is buried at Sacred Heart of St. Mary Cemetery on East McNichols. Marcyanna died on 9 October 1939 and is buried next to her husband. I would be pleased to share information with others related to this family.

All of the families at the end of the road have had cottages there for quite some time.
