After sending the question, I googled a little more, and found some more traces. I am rather convinced that this is Victor's and Catherine's marriage: Victor Korpi Father: Herman Korpi Mother: Not Known Katrina M. Jakela Father: Thomas Jakela Mother: Kustaava Korhonen Marriage: 16 AUG 1902 Hancock, Houghton, Michigan And obviously they started a farmstead, according to Rev. Ilmonen's Michigan Finnish Index PAGE 3 Extracted from: Michigan American Suomalaisten Historia 1926 by Rev. Ilmonen Rauhanlaakso, Chassell Victor Korpi, Victor Kohtala and Johan Luoma from Kauhajoki. William Jääskelä, Kristian Mikkola, Peter Saari. Note, that Victor is from Kauhajoki. Korpi is rather common name in Finland, so there is a proof that I am on the right track. I can see some of the children in the 1920 census (below), should need to see the original document. Cree Korpie city, Houghton, Michigan abt 1878 Kate Korpi city, Houghton, Michigan abt 1879 Rulca Korpi city, Houghton, Michigan abt 1904 Ella Korpi city, Houghton, Michigan abt 1906 Walfred Korpi city, Houghton, Michigan abt 1907 Lyle Korpi city, Houghton, Michigan abt 1910 Waino Korpi city, Houghton, Michigan abt 1913 Raina Korpi city, Houghton, Michigan abt 1915 >From 1930 census I could identify Werner A Karppi city, Houghton, MI abt 1904 But now Korpi is written Karppi!! I hope that he has family, is it possible to verify? So there are members of Victor's family obviously staying around Houghton, probably in Chassell. regards, Esa

    2. Hi Alicia Thanks for the reply: The reason I thought he served during WW2 was because he kept in touch with my folks and there is a picture of him in a navy uniform at Kearsarge. I know he was discharged and was home for a short time and then he joined the army. I have a picture of him in an army uniform and on the back it says Fort Warren, Jan. 47. If he joined the navy when he was 17 I don't think he would have had a draft card. I don't ever remember getting a draft card as I joined the army when I was 17. I was wondering if there was a site where you could find the name of a serviceman and the years the person was in the service. Ernie

It was later reported that the men did not have guns. No striker was ever charge nor were any of the shooters. Altoona Mirror (Altoona, Pennsylvania) > 1906 > August > 2 Fight for their jobs Striking Miners attack Non union men guarded by Sheriff Calumet Mi. Aug 2 In a fight between striking trammer at Michigan Copper Mine at Rockland, and miners who were going to work, under the protection of Sheriff McFarland and a heavy guard of deputies, one man was killed and another mortally wounded. Several more were shot. Forty of the strikers are under arrest in the town hall. The trammers were armed with stones, clubs, knives and revolvers. In the general melee several shots were fired by strikers. The sheriff and deputies then returned the fire. The fight raged fiercely for a time but the trammers wer soon beaten back. Many of them escaped. Owing to the fact that many of the wounded were carried from the field by strikers , it is difficult to sum up the casualties. Alicia
