    1. [MIHOUGHT] SARAZIN-SARRAZIN family, CORRECTED
    2. Jeanne Jacques
    3. SARAZIN-SARRAZIN family, CORRECTED/UPDATED/REVISED/ETC. 2nd try I recently sent this query to the Quebec-Research list, but since it also pertains to Houghton County, I'm also going to try this list in hopes of getting some answers. Had a number of errors in my first try. Please bear with me. Regarding the SARRAZIN family recently discussed on the Quebec-Research (15 Jan)? I have Regina JACQUES who married William G SARAZEN in Upper Michigan: Regina JACQUES, age 19, of Lake Linden, Michigan, dau of Olivier JACQUES & Elodin POISSENT [sic], md 7 July 1908, St. Joseph¹s, Lake Linden, Michigan, William G. SARAZIN, lumberman, age 35, of Lake Linden, Michigan, son of Norbert SARAZIN & Isabella SMITH, Houghton County Marriage Records, Bk4, p 92. According to her tombstone in Mr. Calvary Cemetery, Regina was born 28 Apr 1888 & died OCT 18 1951. William SARAZIN¹s mother, Isabella SMITH, md first (1853 in Ontonagon, Michigan) Louis BOUCHER, whose parents were born in Ste-Genevieve, Berthier. Unable to determine where Louis was born, but he died in Houghton, MI, in 1861. Isabella SMITH md second Norbert SARAZIN (about 1861-1862). I also have a Norbert SARRAZIN, son of Pierre SARAZIN-SARRAZIN & Genevieve SAVOIE, who married Delphine DUPUIS 23 Jul 1844 in St-Norbert, Berthier. Pierre SARAZIN-SARRAZIN was the son of Francois SARAZIN & Marie-Francoise SYLVESTRE, who md in Berthier 14 Sep 1773. My questions: Are these SARAZINs and SARRAZINs all the same family? Need the parents (& their marriage data) of Francois SARAZIN, who md Marie-Francoise SYLVESTRE. Need the parents (& their marriage data) of Norbert SARAZIN, who md Isabella SMITH. Is anyone else interested in the SARAZIN-SARRAZIN families of Houghton Co, Michigan and Berthier County, Quebec? Jeanne Jacques, Austin, Texas

Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.michigan.counties.houghton/4673.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Dear Nancy The Hecla cemetery is completely abandoned, overgrown, and most of the stones have been toppled, buried, broken or taken. Myself and others (whom are also looking for relatives stones)have endeavored to try and make a record of who is buried in the cemetery as we locate them and to take photo's and transcriptions whenever possible. Over the course of the last 7 or 8 years the only Sullivans that I ran across there are Maggie and Eugene. Maggie died in 1897 and Eugene in 1917. The cemetery was a Catholic cemetery that was run by the Hecla Mining Company, hence its name. No record of whom was buried there can be found and it is only by the discovery method that we have compiled the current list. The Cemetery was largely abandoned by 1910 or perhaps a bit later. In about 1957 the Church tried to restore it but may have done more damage then good when they brought in big tractors to tear down the big trees. (we found an article in the local newspaper.) So based on your informati! on, it is likely that your relatives Hannah and Florey were not buried in the Hecla (they died in 1933 and 1947) but more likely in the newer Lakeview Cemetery in Calumet. This is an enormous cemetery that started in about 1900 and is still in use today. They have very good records that can be viewed, but generally one has to travel there and speak to the manager of the place. They then can look up your relatives names and if found direct you to their burial location. There is also some limited files online on the Houghton GenWeb site, but this is only a small fraction of the names. Regarding the photo's of the Sullivan's at the Hecla, I have the masters and can send them to you if you think they are relatives of yours. Probably a generation or two removed from Hannah and Florey. Good luck with your trip to Upper Michigan this summer, if you decide you want to try and walk the Hecla (it is very densely overgrown, very hard to walk through in the summer...) let me know and I! can send you directions plus a rough map of the cemetery. Finally, wh ere is it that you will travel from? Good searching... Greg Skoviak [email protected]
