BROWN, FANCHER, MEAD, SHELDON, and SNODGRASS families Abraham and Mary (Knapp) VAN SCOY were born in Westchester County, New York, in the late 1700s. In the 1830s they moved to Huron County, Ohio. They were preceded to Huron County, Ohio, by her father Brundage KNAPP and later joined by his first cousins, Cornelius and James Van Scoy. Some children of Abraham and Mary (Knapp) Van Scoy: (1) Sally Ann Van Scoy was born in 1812. She married James DURY in 1832 in Huron County, Ohio. James and Sally Dury's daughter Mary married William Fenner SHELDON in 1853 in Huron County. In 1880 William and Mary Sheldon and family were living in Amboy Township, Hillsdale County, Michigan. In 1920 a daughter of William and Mary Sheldon, Lucinda Salmon was living with her husband William in Camden Township, Hillsdale County, Michigan. Also in 1920 a granddaughter of William and Mary Sheldon, Beulah BROWN, was living with her father Otis Brown, her stepmother, and 3 step brothers in Amboy Township, Hillsdale County, Michigan. In 1930 a grandson of William and Mary Sheldon, Victor Sheldon, was living in Hillsdale Township, Hillsdale County, Michigan, with his wife Florence and daughter Patricia. (2) Mary Ann Van Scoy was born in 1816. She married William FANCHER in 1833 in Huron County, Ohio. She died in 1866. In 1870 William Fancher was living with his second wife, Phebe, and some of his and Mary's children in Camden Township, Hillsdale County, Michigan. (3) Priscilla Van Scoy was born about 1817. She married Edward MEAD in 1837 in Huron County, Ohio. Edward and Priscilla Mead had two children, George and Alice. In 1866 Alice married James SNODGRASS. In 1870 Edward, Priscilla, George, and Geroge's wife Mary were living in one household in Camden Township, Hillsdale County, Michigan. In 1880 Edward and Priscilla Mead, Alice Snodgrass, and Alice's children Eva and Ida were living in one household in Camden Township, Hillsdale County, Michigan. Alice's occupation is listed as postmistress. George and Mary Mead and their son Melvin were also living in Camden County in 1880. (4) Abraham Brundage Van Scoy was born in 1827. In 1860 he and his wife Matilda were living in Camden Township, Hillsdale County, Michigan. In 1907 descendants of the Van Scoy and Knapp families formed the VanScoy-Knapp Reunion. We met annually until the mid 1960s. This summer we are meeting again in celebration of the bicentennial of Ohio statehood.
