    1. HISTORY RESEARCH WEEK IN HILLSDALE COUNTY ?

    3. Recently there has been a lively discussion on a New York list about the possibility of a "genealogical week." Someone suggested a week where one could travel to the area and do research. 1- Rooms could be booked at a local motel/hotel at reduced rates and reserved by participants. Ditto camp sites. 2- Coupons for discount meals at certain restaurants 3- Extended hours at historical societies and museums 4- Local tours (cemeteries, etc.) 5- Visits to the library and court house, perhaps with talks by the staff I suppose it would take a genealogical society to spearhead the idea, or perhaps the joint efforts of an historical society and a genealogical society working together, but think of the good that would come of it: new memberships; lodging and meals purchased in the community, etc. And don't forget that genealogists aren't just sedentary old scholars, they do other things too, such as fish and boat and camp... The Chamber of Commerce could jump on board, too. Now this sounds like a great idea to me! What do you think? Would this idea work better in Lansing? With enough time to plan ahead, I would go to either place. Floyd Bailey in southern Illinois
