    1. [MIHILLSD] Hello. Looking for info on STORMS, WOLCOTT, CLEVELAND, and WARREN families
    2. Rikki Nyman
    3. I'm trying to gather information about my ancestors in Hillsdale County. I'll take anything anyone has. My ggggrandfather William L. Wolcott settled in Hillsdale County about 1847. His wife Sarah Storms Wolcott is buried in Sunset View Cemetery. Their son, David A. Wolcott, was born in Ohio but lived his entire adult life farming in Scipio. I don't know when he died. He married Helen A. Cleveland in 1862 right before he enlisted in the Union Army. They had a daughter, Alice Almira Wolcott who was born in 1863--I don't have a precise date. Basically, I am looking for any data that is easily obtainable on the following people. 1860 Census info for Ira Warren -- b. NY -- I think he died in Hillsdale Co. He was Helen Cleveland's grandfather. He and his wife, Eliza, both appear in the 1860 Census. They were in their 60s. Eliza Sharpsteen Warren Children living with them in 1860: Samuel Warren (b. 1833)* John Warren (b. 1835)* George Warren (b. 1841)* Amanda Warren (b 1843) * There are Samuels, Johns, and George Warrens in the 1870 census for Hillsdale Co, but I am not sure any of them are connected to my group. I've tried to figure out who enlisted in the Civil War and think John and George went, but not Samuel. Can't find any of them in GENDIS either, dagnabit. William L. Wolcott -- I have a bio from the USGenWeb site for Hillsdale County for 1888. He is evidently still alive at the time it was written so I know he must have died after 1888. David A. Wolcott b. 1842 Ohio Helen A. Cleveland Wolcott, b. 1845 NY Alice A. Wolcott b. 1863 married Frank Storrs and then lived from 1880 to 1957 in North Muskegon, where she is buried with her husband's family. If anyone knows of anything pertaining to these families, I'd really appreciate hearing from you. I have most of what is available on the Web including censuses through 1880. After that, it seems to be harder to track. Thanks for any insight or help. Rikki Nyman

    3. King, Luther and Emeline in Hillsdale city, Hillsdale County, Michigan King, John F. and Roxana in Hillsdale city, Hillsdale County, Michigan (?) (King), Emma F. in Hillsdale city, Hillsdale County, Michigan (?) (King), Hattie in Hillsdale city, Hillsdale County, Michigan Kent, Norman and Elizabeth (King) in Hillsdale County, Michigan until about 1880. I have names to add for my third great grandfather's younger brother who is know to have been in Hillsdale city, Hillsdale County, Michigan. The following information came from the Detroit Society for Genealogical Research Volume 36 dated 1972 part 2 page 119. Luther King son of Amos Nahum and Hopestill (Haskins) King was born in Canaan, Columbia County, New York on 8 November 1806 and died in Hillsdale city, Hillsdale County, Michigan on 10 December 1891. He married Emeline Campbell in Columbia County New York on 8 December 1829. Emeline was born in Columbia County New York 27 April 1809 and died in Hillsdale city, Hillsdale County, Michigan on 15 February 1893 (she is the daughter of John Campbell) at the age of 85 years. Before 1850 Luther and Emeline (Campbell) King left New Lebanon, Columbia County, New York and were noted in the 1850 US Census for Niagara County, New York. They are enumerated in the 1880 US Census for Hillsdale City, Hillsdale County, Michigan. Luther and Emeline (Campbell) King had two children: John F. King who was born in New Lebanon, Columbia County, New York on 29 August 1830. He married first Sarah Knowles in 1855 but she died the following year. He married second Roxana Post. She was born in lower Canada. She is the daughter of Orange S. and Lucy Post of Wilson, New York. John F. and Roxana (Post) King had two daughters Emma F. King and Hattie King. John F. King and his family spent only one year in Illinois before coming to Michigan in 1867. He retired from farming by 1888 and was living in Hillsdale city, Hillsdale County, Michigan. (Source Portrait and Biographical Album, Hillsdale County, Michigan dated 1888 pp 467 - 468). In 1898 they traveled by train to Oregon and wrote of their trip in a letter dated January 9, 1904 from Hillsdale City, Hillsdale County, Michigan. In the letter they describe the trip, writing to two nephew's in Nebraska and enjoying the company of their 16 year old granddaughter who came to dinner often. He does not name their granddaughter however and nothing is known of her since. The second child of Luther and Emeline (Campbell) King is Elizabeth who married Norman Kent of Hillsdale County, Michigan. They however are not found in the 1880 US Census for Hillsdale County, Michigan and nothing is known of them since. -- Daniel David Lewis Frommherz Come visit my web site www.McKenzieValleyMarket.com please write and tell me what you think of it.
