Ann, I tried to view the page I think you are referring to using Heritage Quest, but it is probably as bad as at Ancestry.com. What might help a bit is that the Heritage Quest index says that someone named Albert E. Dukman is on the page. On the line that I believe is him (near the bottom -- there's no one else with that name on the page) it says he was born in Ohio; father and mother born Pennsylvania. But those are about the only things that are decipherable. You may already have this, but in case not: 54 year old George Dukman born PA is in the 1870 census of Jefferson Twp. Margaret Dukman age 52 born PA; Alice Dukman age 18 born OH; Albert Dukman age 16 born OH; and a 7 year old named Elizabeth (Bahaid?) born PA are the other members of his household. From FamilySearch.org: In 1880 George H. Dukeman is 64 years old. Wife Margaret is 62. Daughter Alice is 26, and son Albert is 24. My guess is that George died before the 1900 census. Hope this is of some help to you. They were in Jefferson Twp until at least 1894. I've tried to find them in 1900 census and think they might be near the bottom of page 8B of ED 91. Peley ASH & Martin MILLER, close neighbors are also on that page. The bottom is very dark on the Ancestry images, so I can't read it. At some later time, the descendants moved on to Battle Creek. I'd be happy for any help. THanks. Does anyone out there have any information about a marriage that may have occurred in Hillsdale County between 1850 and 1854? I'm trying to confirm or disprove a theory and need some kind of corroboration. Peleg Tabor married someone named Deborah and I need the information about her. Thoughts? Access to records, etc? Have already checked Ancestry and no there isn't a record there. Thanks. Rikki Nyman (Checking Storms, Wolcotts, Warrens in Hillsdale Co.)

I am looking for the death date or a cemetery record of my 2nd great-grandmother Mary Warren Hamilton Cobb. The last record I can find for her is on the 1880 census when she was living with her son-in-law and daughter, Elisha & Lusanna Bovee in Woodbridge, Hillsdale Co. Thanks for any help.
Desire information on the George Stubblefield family, who resided at Wright Township. George was born in England in 1811 and he married (1) Edna Sarah Booth (2) Libby B. Cubberly (who is buried in Lickley's Corners Cem.) while George & Edna are buried in Waldron Cem. George's parents are not listed on his death certificate either. His son, Samuel B. Stubblefield served in Company F 18th Michigan VI (Civil War) and I have not received his military records yet !! ehills@cass.net Eldon Hills @ Petersburg, Mi.
Among the members of my family tree who has most stubbornly remained in the "lost and strayed" category is Elmer Grant, born Cape Breton County, Nova Scotia, Canada, on 20 November 1891, son of Arthur Grant and Phoebe Phillips. The last certain record of him I have is the attestation paper he signed on volunteering for the Canadian Army during World War I. That paper was signed in Fredericton, New Brunswick. A kind subscriber to another list has pointed out that there was an Elmer Grant, born in Canada, reported age 25, resident in Litchfield at the time of the 1920 census. If anyone can provide any further information which might confirm or deny that this gentleman was the Elmer Grant I am seeking, I would be most grateful for that assistance. If you have not sent in your registration for the Eaton County Genealogical Society Seminar on 17 April 2004. Fawne was with us last year and we had many requests to bring her back so that she could share some more of her wonderful information and insight with us. I would ask that you forward this to your friends that might be interested. Seating will be limited so don't miss out. The deadline has been extended until April 10th. After that date you should check for availability. Go to our website at <http://www.rootsweb.com/~miecgs/workshop2004.htm> for further information. This year's annual workshop is sure to be a full day of important information. Both primary records and online sources will be discussed at length. Prepare yourself now for a summer of research by arming yourself with the most up-to-date information. CROWN LAND RECORDS For those who attended last year's workshop and heard Fawne speak on Land Registry Office records you will know the importance of understanding land records. This year Fawne will tell us all about crown land records - those lands that brought immigrants to a new world in search of free government land! For those who did not attend last year but have those ancestors that you cannot find before they come to Michigan, they may well have spent time in Ontario working for a grant of crown land to no avail before coming here. Many thousands of early settlers in the province inhabited crown lands through renting, leasing, squatting, government grants and sales. However, hundreds and even thousands of these early settlers never received the actual patent to the land from the government. Fortunately, records of the initial request for land, or attempts to settle crown land were still generated. In some instances, these records represent the only evidence of a settler's existence in the province before they died or moved on to other areas of Canada or the US. This discussion will provide researchers with a sound understanding of the land granting process, the availability of a variety of crown land records and resources. This is an important source of records for anyone doing Ontario research. USING MAPS IN FAMILY HISTORY RESEARCH Maps are critical research tools for family history research. Maps both old and new are important resources to help researchers track down facts about their families; offer the names of individual landowners or residents; show the location of a home on a specific lot; illustrate the relationship of settlers to local institutions; reveal changing place names and; even show changes in the boundaries of nations, provinces, counties, administrative areas (important to early record keeping). An understanding of geographic locations and the relationships illustrated with maps will help family historians locate potential sources of records about their families. This lecture will both explain and visually illustrate the importance of maps for family history research. By attending this year's workshop you will also have an opportunity to see copies of rare Ontario maps. ONLINE SOURCES FOR FAMILY HISTORY RESEARCH Are you trying to do your research online? This session will provide an overview of helpful online resources for researching your family history. Particular attention is given to finding primary sources online and information for those searching in the ancestral homelands of England, Ireland, Scotland and Europe. What tools are there to help you? What obstacles will you encounter? What pitfalls should you watch for? Discover how to connect your primary research with online resources and information. Due to the popularity of this lecture, it has been expanded beyond the 1 hour allotted during the workshop which means participants will receive even more valuable information than originally planned. It also means the schedule for the day could run a little bit over. Don't miss this important information to help you search online effectively! FAMILY HISTORY RESEARCH IN THE 21ST CENTURY Today we stand as participants and witnesses to the infant years of a new century and a new millennium. In the same way that technology has revolutionized the way we live, the hobby (or should we say "obsession") of family history is also in the throws of revolutionary change. But what does this mean to the way in which we conduct our research? More importantly, what will be the legacy of modern family historians for future generations? This session is designed to help researchers identify and balance the information and resources available both online and in traditional institutions in order to make the most of them and ensure that our family history research is a lasting legacy for future generations

Source: Waldron Recorder 28 Jul. 1911 A sad accident took place Monday at the home of George Reasoner, two miles East of the County line Church, which cost the life of a 13-year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Reasoner. Mr. Reasoner had bought a rifle home on Sunday and set it in the corner of the living room. The parents went away on Monday leaving the girl, age 13, and a boy, age 8 years old. While the girl was sitting on a couch sewing the boy took the rifle and playfully pointed it at her, threatening to shoot. It was the same old story. The ball entered the girl's neck and she staggered to the front porch where an Uncle hearing the report. and was coming to see about it, met her. She barely gasped "I am shot" and falling forward on her face, became unconscious and died in a short time. The grief-stricken family have the deepest sympathy of the community.
