I want to obtain a death certificate for Elisha York Palmer. He is on the 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880 census records for Camden Twp, Hillsdale Cty. None of the online sources I've locate have a death date listed for either him or for his wife, Hannah Day Palmer. Does anyone have info to share? Thanks. Lynn Stewart Visone
I am wondering if any one could find Anna Gillespie Hyatt born about 1766 on the 1850 census. I have tried Ancestry all morning and have had no luck. Her second husband Joseph Hyatt died in Reading, Hillsdale county on July 7, 1845. They left NY State in 1838 with several of her family member and went first to spring arbor, Jackson County then to reading and then to PawPaw where Anna died some time about 1858. Anna raised a granddaughter Electra Truesdale who married Anthony J Brown and settled early in Michigan. This may be the reason why the rest of the family came to MI. This family is also related to several of the Carson families and the Markles that came to Jackson County in the 1850 and 1860. The website below has interesting and useful charts: there is a glossary of terms (check out the term 'measurement' - it gives lengths of link, chain, etc.); a list of old occupations, a list of wars, battles, etc. which is in date order so one can check to see if an ancestor may have been affected and last, there is a chart of old deseases. Note: I downloaded all the listings and there was 14 pages of info. Karl MacEachron Fresno CA http://members.tripod.com/silvie/charts.html
I am research Joseph Hyatt who lived most of his year in the Hector area of New York. He is found there from 1800 to just prior to 1840 when he and his second wife Anna Geary Gillespie Hyatt moved to Hillsdale County MI. There is death date for Joseph Hyatt as June 7, 1845 in Reading, Hillsdale County, Mi from Anna Geary Gillespie Hyatt pension file. I am looking for any information that would help me find the children of Joseph Hyatt by his first wife. There may be a probate or an will as Joseph and Anna sold land in Hector before their departure to Michigan. Joseph was a trustee in Baptist Churches in Hector area. Since this is more of a legal position than a religious one in Baptist Churches, he signed his name in that capacity on several documents in the Hector area. He and Anna received a letter of dismissal in about 1839 from the local church in Hector. They may have joined or helped organize a church in the area. Anna was married to Joseph Gillespie in a Presbyterian church in Goshen, NY. Joseph Gillespie was a Rev soldier and was killed in the War of 1812 at the battle of Lewiston.. She was married the second time to Joseph Hyatt by a JP in 1826. Anna died about ten years later in Van Buren county. She had a daughter Margaret married t! o a Saxton. Joseph is in Mi by 1840 census. I would appreciate any help or suggestions that you can give me. Thank you in advance Marilyn Bess
I think it is a great idea! Recently there has been a lively discussion on a New York list about the possibility of a "genealogical week." Someone suggested a week where one could travel to the area and do research. 1- Rooms could be booked at a local motel/hotel at reduced rates and reserved by participants. Ditto camp sites. 2- Coupons for discount meals at certain restaurants 3- Extended hours at historical societies and museums 4- Local tours (cemeteries, etc.) 5- Visits to the library and court house, perhaps with talks by the staff I suppose it would take a genealogical society to spearhead the idea, or perhaps the joint efforts of an historical society and a genealogical society working together, but think of the good that would come of it: new memberships; lodging and meals purchased in the community, etc. And don't forget that genealogists aren't just sedentary old scholars, they do other things too, such as fish and boat and camp... The Chamber of Commerce could jump on board, too. Now this sounds like a great idea to me! What do you think? Would this idea work better in Lansing? Hi Floyd, I love the idea. I think some of the societies do that and go to Ft. Wayne to do research. But I'd love to see it happen. Hello List, I'm new to the list. I'm from Ohio and researching the Harkness, Sample family that settle in Hudson and Hillsdale area. I was wondering if someone could do a death look up for me?. For: Alzina Sample died about Nov 6, 1891 in Pittsford, MI. Buriel at the Maple Grove Cemetery. She was living with a Anna Carpenter in Pittsford, MI Mrs.Lee Reilly (>"""<) (="o"=) (,,)=(,,)
First, I am not related to any Dennis that I know of but this is being done as a favor in return for the many favors that I have received. Having said that, you may wish to look at the following web pages: http://www.mdch.state.mi.us/pha/osr/gendisx/search2.htm http://www.mifamilyhistory.org/dibeanindex/default.asp http://envoy.libofmich.lib.mi.us/1870_census/ The first web page has death records prior to 1896; there was a Josephine who died in 1877 - possible one of the people you have been searching for. The second web site is all of 1870 MI census records. The last is a site that has many MI marriages (primarily from the last half of the 19th century. Hope this helps. Karl
I am searching my Dennis family of Ransom township. I am looking for information on Thomas Dennis and Sally Ann Osmun Dennis. Their Children were Aaron, Curtis, Sherman, Josephine, and William Riley. Does anyone here have any connection to this family? Is there a cemitary look-up availabel for the Ransom cemitary? Are there any real estate records available from the 1850's and 60's? The children above were all born between 1859 and 1875. Thanks for your help. Bill Dennis __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! This question has to do with Mecosta County genealogy and a possible newspaper article after 12/24/1872 death that may be in a Hillsdale County 1872 local newspaper. Is there a Genealogical Society there that covers this? My great great grandfather John Caldwell from Ireland died in Big Rapids on 24 December 1872. At the time he lived in Litchfield, Hillsdale County. His 2 eldest sons (Thomas & John Jr) had homesteads in Missaukee County near Lake City. Otherwise there is no connection of my Caldwell family to Big Rapids or the Mecosta County area. I am trying to figure why my great great grandfather was in Big Rapids at the time; other than perhaps going back to Hillsdale County after visiting his sons in the Lake City area of Missaukee County. Would it have had better medical facilities (e.g. a hospital)? Can NOT find where John Caldwell is buried. Apparently he is buried in Big Rapids someplace; that I have not been able to find so far... The Michigan death index GENDIS does shows his death record. What cemetery would be a logical choice? Is it on-line? Would someone be able to look up in the logical cemetery to find John Caldwell if he is in fact buried in Big Rapids? Would there be an obituary on John Caldwell in the Big Rapids local newspaper of the time of 1872? Would there be an article in the local newspaper shortly after December 24th 1872 about "a stranger that died in Big Rapids" or perhaps about a strange that died while arriving on the train from Lake City. The son that would probably be with John would be Thomas. What hospital was going at this time? Would there be archived doctor's records? All my other Caldwell relatives are buried in the Caldwell cemetery in Missaukee County (Arlene); EXCEPT for my great great grandfather John Caldwell (Sr). Need help in finding where he is buried (Michigan someplace unknown; maybe in Big Rapids; maybe near here). He lived in Jonesville/Litchfield in Hillsdale County at the time, however he is NOT buried anywhere in the Hillsdale County. His wife Jane (Thompson) Caldwell however is in the Sand Creek cemetery in Hillsdale County. The family lived in the Jonesville / Litchfield area; Hillsdale County, Michigan. Thanks for any help or ideas.... Doug Caldwell __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com

It would have been closer than Big Rapids from Missaukee County to get medical attention - because apparently he was gravely ill. Can NOT find where he is buried. My family Caldwell lived in Hillsdale County in 1860 - 1880. They lived in Litchfield and Jonesville areas in 1860 - 1870. Also they lived in Manton Michigan early 1900s. I have done much Caldwell genealogy on my branch from Missaukee County, Hillsdale County, Wexford and Tuscola Counties in Michigan. Connections to Lake City and Manton, as well as recent connections to Big Rapids and Cadillac. Some of the names I am researching are Morris, Allison, Winter, Turner. The original Irish parents moved from New York, Orleans County and Niagara County as well as Trenton Canada West to Michigan around 1858. My grandfather Frank Caldwell had a creamery in the 1930s in Manton. My great grandfather John Caldwell lived in Manton from about 1905 to his death in 1916. My father George Caldwell was born in the Manton area. Looking for these Caldwell connections in Manton, Cadillac, Big Rapids, Lake City, Traverse City, or in lower Michigan. Quite a while ago, I asked a question about the 1860 census; in that census, there was a column titled 'Married During The Year' and I asked if this means within the year '1860' or thelast 12 months? Many of you kindly sent me the answer (which I thought was correct before I asked); I now have the definitive answer sent by a census official who read my question as well - below is her answer: 15. Married during the Year.-- Under heading 11, you are to make a dash (1) opposite the name of each person, male and female, married within the year previous to June 1; that is, of all persons who are residents, and whose names are entered on the schedule Should you ever have questions on what the columns, or information in them, was supposed to contain you can find the answers at http://www.ipums.org/usa/voliii/tEnumInstr.html Thanks everyone for the answers you sent but I thought you would like to know that your analysis was proven correct.
