There are Holland's living in Grand Traverse County, perhaps someone is descended from Samuel and Harriet Holland and has more information about the family than we do. What I really need to find is where in England Samuel was born and how he came to North America. As we understand it, Holland is a very common name in England, like Smith is in the U.S. In the 1870 Census for East Bay Township, Grand Traverse County Michigan Samuel is listed as William Holland . The post office is listed as Acme, MI. The census reads as follows: William Holland, age 36 b. England Harriet Holland, age 30 b. Canada Sydney Holland, age 12 b. Canada Edward Holland, age 9 b. Canada Sarah Holland, age 5 Margaret Holland, age 3 Benjamin Holland, age 2 Harriet Holland, age 8/12 A lady whose surname was GRAY attended the funeral of Samuel's and Harriet's son, Stanley in April of 1957.
