    1. Re: [MIGRANDT-L] Mental Health Records
    2. Peg, Most people that died at the Asylum were buried at Oakwood Cemetery in Traverse UNLESS relatives were around to bury them elsewhere. The sexton, Brandon, and his staff are very helpful 231-922-4907 the records they have are indexed although not complete. The Traverse City, City Hall has cemetery records also.. some match the sexton's... some do not.. they both have records that the other does not. IF they are Catholic religion, Oakwood Cemetery no longer has the info for that part of the cemetery. The Catholic Church has offices for all the cemetery info now. They too, are very helpful. As for the guy who died in 1928? Would need more info to help with that. IF the cemetery shows no record.. then checking with City Hall would be the next step I would take. They have their own sets of indexes and records. Have you gotten the obits from Oregon? Ok.. Peg.. good luck also.. when the hospital went defunct the records were all sent to the Library of Michigan State Archives (there is info online.. not names but info about the State Hospital there) Records are very hard to get. I think only parents and children were allowed access to the direct records. But I really need to try getting records again to know the way it is being done now.. for sure~ bye for now, brenda In a message dated 10/13/00 3:31:18 PM Eastern Daylight Time, Peg77Kel@aol.com writes: << In July, 2000 I wrote to the Mental Health & Substance Abuse in Lansing to try and find out where my Grandmother's brother was buried. He died 1 Jan 1928, in the Traverse City Hospital ob TB. As to this date I have received no reply whatsoever and I would like to know if there is someway of receiving this information or some hints as to where to try next. Someone had checked a cemetery where people from there had been buried but found no record of him. I lost the information she'd written when my computer lost my saved e-mail so I don't recall the name of the Cemetery. They didn't have information as to his parents but his death date and age at death computes with his birthdate and I have his parents and siblings birth, death and place of deaths. The parents and Arnold all died within a year of each other, and the parents are buried in Oregon. Any help at all would be appreciated. Peg >> Brenda K.
