Hi all, Dawn Triplett has stuck again and left several new obits.. for foks in Grand Traverse County..... many of these obits are not just the kalkaska area.. they have some TC.. but many Fife Lake, Kingsley, and surrounding areas.. So be sure to check Kalkaska website, on the GenConnect boards for all these areas.. One name she did several of is: Fuller and i know that name has been bouncing around. I am also working with a fella at the Record Eagle to get permission to put any obits on the GT board.. as of now.. we can only do what is out of copyright.. which is 1923 and back......... nothing any newer. I am just trying to find out about PEter Drow/Drou/Droy/Dron/I have his obit that says DREW, in CEnsus, he is DRoy,DROZ, and Drou., in other info states PEter Dron -Blacksmith,..Supposedly came from France, but there is reference to Elizabeth his daughter who married Adolphus Gauthier/Gokey and her native heritage, she was also supposedly from France, one of his first four daugthers. So on The Gauthier Forum in Gen forum, she is being classified as a Brow, and that she has native heritage,This does not bother me in the least, ( my mother is as am I ) but the fact that the Brow/Breault family according to Landrevilles, a book, someone had to witness the marraige info of her being a BROW. Just totally confused. I have peshawbetown log , many thanks to Vicki, of Elizabeth being baptised, when she was older. Parents Peter Drou, and Margaret Morel.... So advice apprecitiated , and directions as well.I have heard this book is marvelous, although has some errors....I would love to find one someday... LORI -sorry so long a post....

I also checked Leelanau, Benzie, Emmet, Antrim and Wexford and see nothing. This book is on the history and some of the peoples of the above counties, including Grand Traverse. It does have a lot of good information it it.. but not complete nor was it meant to be, i don't think. It has a map of each county.. tells about the beginnings, churchs, schools.. etc.. Many Michigan libraries have this book but I do not know if there is one that could be sent interlibrary loan or not.. normally they are reference books There is another book... very similar, Spragues History of Grand Traverse and Leelanau Counties.. and I see neither of your names there. - Can You Help Identify a Tombstone's Original Location? Barbara Stewart has been hard at work, trying to find the original location of a headstone that was found leaning up against a dumpster in Westville, Oklahoma a couple of years ago. The mystery caught her curiosity about 3 weeks ago, after reading about it in the Tulsa World newspaper. Barbara wrote this week: I have found the place, and the families involved but there are many questions yet to be answered. I hope you may be able to mention this in your newsletter in hope of finding some answers to yet unsolved puzzle parts. Maybe someone on your subscribers list has connections to this family line. I have just about exhausted most of my sources, and now need some descendants to help with the details. Mary F., wife of A. B. Harding, born Dec.1, 1866 died May 25, 1896. With the following information found in public and church records, I have determined that Mary F. wife of A. B. Harding is the following individual. Martha F. Reavis age 21 married A. B. Hardin age 29,in Fulton Co., Arkansas, May 14, 1888. Allen B. Harding received a homestead in 1897 in Fulton Co. Arkansas. Reavis name is also on homestead records for Fulton Co. Arkansas. The parents of Martha Frances Reavis were Morgan Reavis and Mary Moore. In the 1880 census she was called Frances, age 14. According to the IGI, from the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Martha Frances Reavis was born Dec. 1, 1866, the same date as on the headstone. Martha F. died in Fulton Co. According to Oral history in the Reavis Family history book, she died in 1895, not backed up with proof, and no full birthdate, only the year. Now that the mystery of to whom the headstone belongs, we have another problem of figuring out why the name on the stone says Mary, when the woman's real name was Martha Frances Reavis Harding, wife of Allen B. Harding, and figuring out how it got to Westville, Oklahoma. Martha had a sister named Mary Ann and her mother's name was Mary. The headstone was made in St. Louis and supposedly purchased through the Sears & Roebuck catalog. No one remembers the headstone being in the cemetery in the last 60 years. The Reavis family placed a marker a few years ago next to Martha F. Reavis Harding's twin brother's grave, with information they evidently got from the census. Her birth date on the new stone says just 1865. That was evidently calculated from the age given on the census or from the Reavis family history book. Allen B. Harding remarried (to Ada Foust) 3 months after Martha's death according to my figures, if Mary and Martha are one and the same. He and Martha had no children. Allen B Harding died in 1931, and had at least one daughter from the second marriage. Was Mary F. an error when the stone was carved? No one knows exactly where Martha/Mary is buried in the Stateline Cemetery in Fulton Co. Records for burial are not complete. All of the Reavis Family is buried there along with Allen B. Harding. Mr. Rose, the man who has the headstone, just wants to put that headstone back where it belongs. We are looking for all volunteers that would like to offer their time to research to help get this headstone back where it belongs. This headstone needs a proper resting place. Mr. Rose doesn't feel right about returning it to the Stateline cemetery until all doubt is quieted. It would be nice to have it in place for the 104th anniversary of her death, May 25th, and for Memorial Day. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and for any help you might provide. - Plans Finalized to Dispose of 2000 Census Paperwork In the December 18, 1999 edition of this newsletter, I wrote about U.S. National Archives and records Administration's plan to dispose of non-essential paperwork created while creating the 2000 census. In that article, I wrote: The National Archives and Records Administration has received the records disposition schedules for the records that have been and will be created as a result of the Census 2000. They are contacting many constituent groups, seeking public input. The National Archives also published a notice about the same topic in the Federal Register on Dec. 13, 1999. In short, the Year 2000 census will generate a lot of paperwork. Genealogists will be quite aware of the records produced that list names, addresses and vital demographic material. However, many hundreds of thousands of other documents will be produced, including address lists and map update records, block canvassing, special place and group quarters inventories, local updates to census address lists, new construction lists, updates or revisions to census maps in electronic format, update/leave questionnaires, urban update/leave questionnaires, list enumeration and address registers, updates and revisions to the Master Address File, questionnaires, maps, and address registers created for special enumerations, respondent data collected by telephone assistance and through the Internet response program, operations and control records, electronic images of scanned paper questionnaires, unprocessed electronic source files of information captured from the electronic images, the Decennial Response File, the Census Unedited File, the Census Unedited File Sample, the Census Edited File, the Census Edited File Sample, the Accuracy and Coverage Evaluation (ACE) address lists, ACE telephone interview records, personal interview records and maps, dual system estimates, ACE support and management records, Census 2000 contracts and related records, census pretest records, research, evaluation, and experimental program records, and records created using electronic mail and word processing applications. (Whew!) The U.S. Census Bureau, not the National Archives, conducts the census. However, the National Archives will be storing the records for use by future generations. Their big question is, "Which records are worth keeping?" Storing everything will require more storage warehouses to be built at taxpayer expense. Keeping every scrap of paper is simply not practical. Someone has to make a decision as to what to keep and what to throw away. The National Archives is inviting public comments in order to help in that decision process. Genealogy societies are especially invited to comment. The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) has now completed the appraisal report and the revisions to Disposition Job No. N1-29-00-02, a comprehensive record schedule that proposes dispositions for 62 series and subseries of Census 2000 records, including the scanned image files of the paper questionnaires and forms.
