Thanks, Brenda. I have my great grandfather's obit but it does not mention any names except my grandmother and her sister. I found Arnold's name in the census records living with them. Too many "stories" that I'd like to get verified. Sounds like they didn't have much more to do with him after institutionalizing him. It would be nice if the Library would at least acknowledge my letter and tell me whether I could get the records or not. David Nelson Gregory died in Oregon 28 April 1928, Martha McKee Gregory died 25 Jan 1929 in Oregon and Arnold died 1 Jan 1928. Do you know if they had obits printed of the inmates? I know it probably wouldn't have his parents names because it seems as though the hospital didn't know that information. Arnold was 7 in the 1900 Census in Charlevoix CO. with parents and sisters. <The sexton, Brandon, and his staff are very helpful 231-922-4907 the records they have are indexed although not complete. The Traverse City, City Hall has cemetery records also.. some match the sexton's... some do not.. they both have records that the other does not.> Someone checked the Oakwood sexton's records and Arnold wasn't listed but he did say that if we found him there he would update his records. Do you have an address for the City Hall so I could check with them? Many thanks again for your help. Peg

Peg, Most people that died at the Asylum were buried at Oakwood Cemetery in Traverse UNLESS relatives were around to bury them elsewhere. The sexton, Brandon, and his staff are very helpful 231-922-4907 the records they have are indexed although not complete. The Traverse City, City Hall has cemetery records also.. some match the sexton's... some do not.. they both have records that the other does not. IF they are Catholic religion, Oakwood Cemetery no longer has the info for that part of the cemetery. The Catholic Church has offices for all the cemetery info now. They too, are very helpful. As for the guy who died in 1928? Would need more info to help with that. IF the cemetery shows no record.. then checking with City Hall would be the next step I would take. They have their own sets of indexes and records. Have you gotten the obits from Oregon? Ok.. Peg.. good luck also.. when the hospital went defunct the records were all sent to the Library of Michigan State Archives (there is info online.. not names but info about the State Hospital there) Records are very hard to get. I think only parents and children were allowed access to the direct records. But I really need to try getting records again to know the way it is being done now.. for sure~ bye for now, brenda In a message dated 10/13/00 3:31:18 PM Eastern Daylight Time, Peg77Kel@aol.com writes: << In July, 2000 I wrote to the Mental Health & Substance Abuse in Lansing to try and find out where my Grandmother's brother was buried. If you have family in this cemetery or know of anyone who is researching this area, pass this along. Hello, I live in St. Louis, Missouri and saw on the local news tonight that there is a BRIDGETON MEMORIAL PARK - 1843 - 1963 ( North St. Louis) that is looking for persons with family buried there. The airport is being expanded and they are going to move the CEMETERY. Is there a way to get this message to as many listers as possible in a short amount of time? Can you help! FROM THE.. office of MICHIGAN STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL OFFICE::: :::::::::::: per Rita - Oconto, WI CC ......Thanks Rita.. Brenda, GT MI CC __________ ________________ _____________ The Michigan State Attorney General's Office of high tech crime investigation has been asked to look into the FamilyDiscovery.com site. They make this good suggestion in the meantime: If one of your pages is linked for profit by any site that you do not wish, it is a good (but somewhat temporary) idea to replace the information on that page address with a message like " This page has been illegally linked to by a 'for profit' search engine site without permission of the owner. This is a (name of county) WIGenWeb Site Page (then give the home page addie link) and the info. is free at the following address (then give the new page address link)." The person I talked to at the office said that the use of the word "illegal" is powerful (suggests putting it in red caps) and indicates that the profit search engine owner may not be playing straight with them, either. And it helps spred the word about the misuse of the information right on his own site. Just thought I would pass this along for what it is worth. Rita - Oconto CC Brenda K.
