You must use your imagination when searching GENDIS if you do not find who you are searching for. The names may have been misspelt and/or mis-transcribed. Try alternate spellings of a last name and see what results you get. Also, start your search with the *last name* only. If you get hundreds of results, then re-do your search and enter *first names* and variations, plus that last name. Below, I quote from the GENDIS *Search Tips*: "Any criteria entered into a name field will match any record that begins with those letters. For example, entering Ols in the Decedent's Last Name field will match Olson, Olsen, Olsson, etc. This is useful in that exact spellings cannot always be determined from the original, handwritten ledgers. This is also useful if you are unsure of the spelling of the name, or know only the first few letters."
