    2. Thanks for the information. I sometimes get stuck with that thought of the Correct Spelling of a name. I actually forget that there could be many different spellings. Of course that could go back to my school days of not being a very good speller and always was told to spell it correctly. Kinda sticks in your head, got those blinders on again. Then again the Census takers were not very good spellers themselves or heard well or one of a million other reasons why a name was put down.. Thank goodness for spell checker... lol Thanks and God Bless Pam

    1. [MIGENESE] Re: [Ger-Sur] More 1880 US census look ups? Read Carefully!!
    2. Hi there, I could use a lookup also if you have the time on a Jerimiah B. JONES. Not too familiar with Germany but his daughter Lydia CHAPLE - AUSTIN her 2nd marriage, had been widowed and listed on the Elmwood, Tuscola Michigan 1900 Census. It stated that her father was born in Germany. Lydia AUSTIN was born about Aug 1847 in Michigan. Her mother, Huldah DIBBLE, was listed as being born in New York on the 1900 Census and in Michigan the1880 Census. I looked up Lydia Austin in the familysearch.com and found a Lydia AUSTIN born in AUG. 1848 in Michigan. Close? But both parents are stated as being born in Michigan on the 1880 census. So who do you believe, the 1880 Census or the 1900 Census? The name of the parents given from the familysearch.com were Jerimiah B. AUSTIN and Huldah DIBBLE married 31 Dec 1843 in Fentonville(Fenton), Genesse, MI. So this gets even more confusing. So that's why I am asking for a lookup to see if that name Jerimiah B. AUSTIN appears anywhere in Germany. I found her in the 1850 Fenton, Genesse Michigan Census alone, 40 years old as Huldah AUSTIN and not with Jerimiah but with children, Jefferson age 20, Joel age 13, Olive age 6 and Lydia age 3. I think this is my Lydia AUSTIN. I wonder if they divorced or he died? On the 1880 Census under her 1st marriage name, Lydia JONES it states her father was born in Michigan. So I guess Germany is a good place as any to start. I would only have to assume he was about the same age as Lydia. Can you help at all with such little information on him? I told you more than you probably needed to know, but just incase maybe something may help. Thanks and God Bless Pam

    2. Thanks for the information on that nickname. However I am still searching the real name of this person. The only males I can see on Census is an Eli, Lafayette, William T, Joseph L. and this Birdie person who is male. But I guess I need to check out another Census, this is on a 1880 in Elmwood, Tuscola Michigan. So the next one would be the 1890 I think...He would be 18 then. Heck he may be out of the house at that age..Thanks again for taking the time to search. God Bless Pam

    3. My grandmother Alberta was called "Bird" by my grandfather. Maybe partly because she loved to talk to people. And one great-uncle, named Adelbert at birth, was called Delbert and Bert. As usual, spelling is of minor importance in genealogy, but learning all the possible versions of a name is a big help in tracking people in the public and family records. Anyone that says their name was "always" spelled XXXX needs to take some genealogy classes! 1. [MIGENESE] Genesee Co. Infirmary in Burton Co.
    2. Hi List: I live in Maryland and need some information for a place in Michigan. Would anyone know anything about the Genesee Co. Infirmary in Burton Twp. What kind of people did this infirmary incarcerate in the 1920s and where was it located in Burton Twp.? The name of the road is illegible but it looks like it may be Saxasono if that means anything. Would someone on the list help or advise me where I could find the answer to my question? Thank You. Beverly Takoma Park, MD

    1. [MIGENESE] Help me if you can......
    2. Hi list, I really can't believe that in family genealogy there comes an end to a family line. I seem to realize that my family lineage on my grandmothers side is just about gone. She passed away this past Jan. 2002. There in one uncle left and his children, and one child who was adopted and her family. That is it. The only thing left to do is go backwards into time and that is not easy. No dates, little names, and what names you have turn out to be nicknames which makes it even harder to find them. I have one census that has a son listed as Birdie. Who in the world would name a son Birdie? Anyway, I'll get to my plea for help once more. I am looking for anyone who has information on a Lydia AUSTIN in Michigan. She married a Peter JONES in 1864. He is still alive in 1880 because he is on the census. So Peter had to of died some time between then and the 1900 census only because Lydia is listed as Liddie CHAPLE (misspelled first name) and also listed as widowed. So she married CHAPLE before the 1900 census. I have a 20 year time frame here to work with, but have not yet come up with anything. Can anyone help? It will be greatly appreciated. I am willing to share what I have on her and other surnames, SKINNER, THUNE, BROWN Thanks and God Bless Pam

Last, > on family search, I found one child of Peter Jones and Lydia Austin, > named Eliza. She was born on 12/13/1877 in Tuscola, Michigan. > > Hope this helps, good luck. > + Bruce, Hi I was looking back on some email information that I save for later use. I wanted to ask you about the Eliza that you said you found as a daughter of Lydia and Peter JONES. In the 1880 Census of Elmwood, Tuscola Michigan the daughters named are Adda, Emma, Liza E. JONES.. I was just wondering where you found that information? Is it possible that Liza middle name is Elizabeth? Because I don't see that name on the Census List. Also strange is that it seems like the right Lydia and Peter JONES.. But the only names I can say for sure are from some old pictures with the daughter names of Hattie, Emma who never married and died an old maid, and Flora Bell JONES. The sons names are Lafayette married to a Frances C. and a William JONES. However in the 1880 Census I mentioned above, these names are on there, daughters are: Adda, Emma, Liza E. and Sons are: Eli, Lafayette, Birdie, William T., Joseph L. JONES. I have learnt that the census takers did not always spell to good and people did go by nickname or middle names. So this one is a hard family to put together since the main characters married so many times due to deaths. In the 1900 Census of Mills, Ogemaw Michigan Lydia is spelled Liddie with the last name CHAPEL, which is who she married after JONES died. She is listed as Widowed and living with her son Lafayette JONES and his family and in this household is her other son William. So you see Bruce the names seem to fit but getting them inline is tough. Lydia also married a William BROWN sometime after this time frame as it was written on the back of a photo. Lydia reported as having 11 children in the 1900 Census with 8 living. So 2 must have died before her. She was born in Aug. 1847. God Bless Pam

They were married 16 Oct 1864 in St. Clair City Michigan. He died and I am having trouble finding his death date. Peter JONES father is listed on Census as being from OHIO. Man 2> After JONES died she married someone by the last name of CHAPLE/CHAPEL. It was listed on the 1900 Census in Mills, Ogemaw County Michigan as Liddie CHAPLE widowed. I am also having trouble finding the marriage date and death date of this man since I have no first name to go by. Man 3> Charles/Charley HEATH drowned in Michigan. He was married to a Hattie JONES ( real name could be Olive A. JONES) She was STB born Aug 1865. I am having troubles finding a marriage and obit. Would like to find some kind of article describing this drowning which I would hope to lead me to more information on the real name of his wife. After HEATH's death, she later married a William Murray BROWN. Extra tidbit> William Murray BROWN was b. in Ohio, father in New York and mother in Massachusetts. Can someone please help me? I am still learning the in's and out's of genealogy. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am also willing to share what I have. God Bless Pam
