Germaine, Here is the URL for the Flint Genealogical Society. There is a cemetery index there. And also a death index from 1867 to 1930. Click on "Redbook" for that. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mifgs/ And you might be able to find some children's marriages here: http://www.co.genesee.mi.us/clerk/information.htm There is a searchable index for marriages from 1963 and a death index to 1930. Richard- I sure know how work can get in the way of life! Too bad we can't just do what we want and still get paid. Oh well. A friend and I stopped at the Whaley house a while ago and judging by that address, I think 512 would have been before the U of M campus. I could be wrong and either way gone is gone but I think seeing the Whaley house, I have an idea of the type of house my grandfather had. He has been described as "a prominent citizen", and otherwise successful man of his time. He was the editor or publisher of the Flint Democrat among other newspapers and also lived in Saginaw and Bay City. What's strange to me, I remember as a child my dad telling me at one time it was an all day trip to go to Flint. Since my dad traveled a lot in his business, I just figured he went to Flint on business but until 1937, he had a sister-in-law there, his half-brother, William Clark Mather, having died several years earlier. It's funny how those old memories fit into the genealogy puzzle years later. Thanks again. Grace, I will try to see what I can find for you at the library. I do not have a 1910 map, but have used the city directories at the library. However, it will probably be Friday or Saturday before I can get back to the library. ( I have this inconvenience called "work" that gets in my way at times <grin>). Some of the properties along Kearsley Street were also absorbed into the new downtown campus of University of Michigan-Flint. I remember as a child, all the stately homes along Kearsley Street, when I would walk to the main branch of the Flint Public Library from bus line at Saginaw Street. Grace, The Flint Public Library's website says they have the following. I believe some are only on microfilm which may be why you did not see the one for 1880. Barb Flint City Directory - 1871 to 1991, 2000 The collection is complete. Volumes from the depression and war years were not published. E-mail message From: amzgrace@comcast.net (Grace Mather) Date: Tue, Jan 14, 2003, 6:55pm To: MIGENESE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [MIGENESE] Flint Directory Lookup Needed Reply to: MIGENESE-L@rootsweb.com Richard- I'm wondering if your 1910 map of Flint might show the house where my grandfather lived on Kearsley Street pre-I475 in 1880. He was 60 when my dad was born and my dad was 55 when I was born so there are a lot of years between just three generations. When I was in Flint, I couldn't find an 1880 city directory for the address. His name was Horatio Nelson Mather and his son William Clark Mather also lived on Kearsley street around that time at 512. It's possible Wm. C. and his family moved into the house Horatio moved out of. I'd like to know if they lived in the same house (if an 1880 city directory can be found) but if not, since 475 came long after 1910, I'd be interested in a map as well. Grace

Hi Bernie Tonight, I looked at a 1915 City Directory. There was a house own by an bakery at 2706 Michigan Ave in 1915. I did find in 1918 a Michael and Rose Sadowski at 2809 Michigan Ave. By 1921, Michael and Rose Sadowski lived at 3613 Grant Ave. [ As my St. John Street ancestors would say " the other side of the tracks, closer to All Saints". ] When I looked in the 1915 under Sadowski, there was a Michael Sadowsky working at Flint Sanitary Can Co. and was boarding at the business. The business was listed at south side of Flushing Rd, west of North Stevenson ( must have been west of Hurley Hospital). I could not find anything under the surname of Notoray, are you sure the name was not Mitoraj- there was Mitoraj living on Michigan Ave in 1918/1922. Hope this helps. Dzien Dobre!
