It would be VERY easy to err in that way. Look for other names written by the same person to see if that's the way they wrote the double "S". Janet is being really helpful, I was raised in Flint, but since returning near the area, 3 years ago, I get lost trying to get around here, it changed a lot in the 37 years I was gone. I would like to point out one thing from her instructions, however. It is not Kersley St, but Kearsley St. (The only reason I know how to spell it is that I graduated from Kearsley High School.) Hi, Looking for BLIP or BLISS, Mary who had a child out of wedlock. She had her son who was named John HORTON born Nov. 01, 1877 in Burton Twp. Father name was not given. She lived in Flint at that time. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank You, Deb Faith
I can't help you with the father's name, but a clue about the "Blip" versus "Bliss". Often in the old handwriting, two s's together, were written with a character that resembled an uncrossed "f" that extended below the line. This "f" might also have been read as a "p". Instead of tromping through a cemetery why not try the Flint Genealogical Society home page at: www.rootsweb.com/~mifgs Just click on the above address and browse the FGS web site for the cemetery data there. A year and ahalf ago was the first time I had been back in Flint in over 34 years. That trip was my hope to find my family's old house on W. Paterson street. Well, it is still there and now I am seeking any information about my grandfather Frank A. Green, who died in 1937, the year before I was born. Many moves and too many flooded basement with trunks resulted with almost no records. Any help and/or sense of direction would greatly be appreciated.

Could somebody tell me the street(s) around Avondale Cemetery. When I was in Flint a couple of weeks ago, someone at the library said it was 5 blocks away and I drove around in circles without finding anything that resembled a cemetery. Grace
The best way to get to Avondale Cemetery is to go North on North bound Chavez Dr., turn left and go under the expressway and now you are going South on Chavez Dr. There is a big building on the right side of the road, this is the Army National Guard Armory. The cemetery is on the south side of the Armory. Let me know if you need any further directions.
