    3. If the person is deceased and you are an heir, you can get the birth certificate if it is less than 100 years. Sometimes you have to remind them that the party is deceased and you are directly related. I got one from a city and stated that as a sister, I would be an heir (which may mean decendant, not sure the legal definition of that) but they checked with the state and then sent me the birth certificate. It was for my brother who was born in 1960 and lived only one day. 2. That agrees with what I've seen and found first hand in requesting birth records. Also, "(Michigan) death and marriage records are available since 1867. Any individual may request a copy." "Birth Records: The first page says, "Records are available since 1867. Birth records are restricted in Michigan and only a person named on the record or who is a legal guardian or representative of an individual named on the record may request a copy." But when you go to the link, it says, "ELIGIBILITY:  Michigan law limits who can receive a certified copy of a Michigan birth record. You must select which category qualifies you to receive the requested record.  To be eligible you must be either the person named on the record, a parent named on the record, a legal guardian, a legal representative or an heir of the person named on the record.  Anyone is eligible for a copy of a birth record that is at least 110 years old. http://www.mdch.state.mi.us/PHA/OSR/requests.htm The Michigan.gov link has a nicely formatted pdf form you can print and fill out and mail off. See http://www.michigan.gov/documents/birthapp_6360_7.PDF from: http://www.michigan.gov/mdch/0,1607,7-132-4645_4702---,00.html The county also may have the records. 3. Even though the Web site shows 110 years, Michigan did pass a law about two years ago changing it from 110 to 100 years. They are currently "working" on getting it dropped to 75 years. That may take a while.
