    1. [MIGEN] Descendants of James MCKELVEY in Michigan
    2. Bryan Gallagher
    3. Hi, Listers: I would appreciate hearing from anyone who may be descendants of James MCKELVEY, who was born in Northern Ireland on August 12, 1831, and died in Ontario, Canada on March 29, 1909. His wife, Mary (HEBNER?), was born in what was then called Upper Canada on February 16, 1832, and died on August 29, 1917. James and Mary had a large family, consisting of the following children: Sarah Catherine married John Thomas SMITH William John married Mary (last name unknown) Mary married Paul (CHAPPELLE?), then William "Bill" WISE Joseph married Lydia (last name unknown) Annie married Ed HUGHSON Robert (died young) Frank (died young) Alexander married Eliza MCCARTNEY Ellen married George EASTMAN Mark married Mary (last name unknown) George married Ann (last name unknown) Alice Ida (did not marry) Some of James and Mary's children emigrated to Michigan in the latter half of the 1800s. Annie and Ed Hughson reportedly lived in Manistique, MI, and did not have any children. William John and Mary had a family of eight: Ida, Mabel, Florence, Alice, Annie, Pearl, Howard and Floyd. Annie was reportedly born in Dansville, MI (date unknown) and died about 1932. She was married to Charles BRAY. Florence was also born in Michigan, but the exact location is unknown to me. Her husband was Frank KERR. They may have had four children. Pearl was married to Jack BROOKS and Cleo (VAN RIPER?). Pear and Jack had a daughter Lucille, who married Sherman VALLAD), and a son Jack, Jr. Howard is believed to have died about 1980. His wife was Tina (last name unknown). I have a photo that might possibly be of William and Mary's six daughters. The Manistique photographer's name is difficult to make out but appears to be spelled something like PROULE. Mary and Paul Chappelle had two children: Bertha and Sydney. I have photos of Mary and Bertha that were taken in Saginaw, MI, by photographer B. KRUPP. I don't know what became of Paul, but Mary later married Bill Wise. My mother tells me that they lived in Huntsville, Ontario, which is where Mary is buried. Alexander was born about 1874. I have a photo of him taken in Manistique by a photographer who went by the name "Howard." Alex and Eliza were married about February 1899. They had two daughters, Vivian and (Nina or Anna), and a son, Harold. Harold reportedly ran a garage in Manistique. Vivian reportedly went to live with her Aunt Annie Hughson when Eliza was too ill to raise her, and Aunt Annie took Harold after Eliza died. Vivian eventually went to California. Ellen's husband George Eastman was born somewhere in Michigan. I have a photo of her that was also taken by "Howard" in Manistique. They had two daughters (names not known) and a son, Thomas. My connection to these people is through Sarah Catherine McKelvey and John Thomas Smith, who were my maternal great-grandparents. I hope that this information will ring a bell with some of you out there. Thank you in advance for assisting me in locating my American cousins. Sincerely, Bryan Gallagher, Toronto, Ontario.
