    1. [MIGEN-L] Aho/Tomac?
    2. Hello, I don't even know where to begin! This may be repetitive to some of you, I posted this quite some time ago, but now I'm getting desperate, LOL! This is going to be long! I have been researching my husband's family & I have quite an interesting mystery on my hands!   His grandmother, Mary Rose Tomac b. 5-18-1914, some where along the lines before she passed away (APPARENTLY) found information (what or where, I don't know) that she was adopted. The STORY is that she was born an Aho.  It is believed that she was living in a lumberjack camp (?) with her parents.  That part is supposedly a memory of hers so I would imagine it could be with either set of parents & possibly some other type of camp.   There are 2 versions, one that her mother died giving birth & the other that her mother died while Mary was very young.   She also came in to some info that she may have actually been born in 1912.   The other part of the story was that she was ADOPTED in a bar. Possibly won in a poker game. I sure wish I knew where this info came from! Nobody seems to know! My mother in law has mentioned to me Elmer Aho.  She seems to think this may have been a brother.  I have no clue! Anyway, I have no "real" records of her.  Nobody knows where she was married so I have been unsuccessful in getting a marriage certificate in hopes of getting her parents' names.  Nobody even knows the names of the parents who raised her. There is no for sure place that she was born.  I have an address for her in a bible living in Houghton, MI.   I requested a birth certificate from the State of Michigan. So far I have no way to verify if the one I received back is even hers. The name is right, Mary Tomac, but the date is off.  It lists her DOB as 6-12-1912. One reason why I believe it could actually be hers is because her mother is listed as Rose Stimac & her father as Dan Tomac. Rose was Mary's middle name. There is a date stamp at the top of 7-10-1912.  A lady in the clerk's office told me that if she was adopted it would have had to have been at birth because of that date stamp. I have kind of let the whole adoption theory go because I have no solid proof. However, tonight Aho was thrown back in my face! I received some extensive family research on Mary's second husband's side. There is a note on there that he married Mary Aho ? Now that was very strange to me because as far as I know everything says Tomac! I just received that info tonight & will do everything I can to contact this researcher ASAP. So now I am back on the adoption suspicion. So far I have been unsuccessful at getting her SS-5 form. I did write away to the Adoption Registry in Michigan & they show no matching records. If the whole bar story is true, that may be why. In these stories I have heard of her, Iron Co. has been mentioned as well. Not exactly sure where. I am so confused & am hoping to make a connection with someone, anyone!!!!!!! If anyone is connected to these families, of course I would LOVE to hear from you. Or, if anyone could possibly point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you for your time.
