    1. [MIGEN] Michigan Family Group Sheet Project (FGS)
    2. Patricia Hamp
    3. I am proud to announce that the Family Group Sheet Project for Michigan is now online and ready for submissions to be put online for researchers. Family Group Sheets are collected by many societies and are a good way to exchange data with other researchers and develop leads for your own research. There are forms set up to collect your data and send it to the file manager for uploading to the site. If you have any questions please contact me. Links to county sites that have collected family group sheets have been provided. If you know of any more to link to please let me know. The USGenWeb Project has acknowledged The Family Group Sheet Project as a potential Special Project with a final determination to be made in December 2003. Please help by submitting yours and listing your sources for your information. 1. Re: [MIGEN] Obit index for Detroit newspaper?
    2. Renee O.
    3. The index for the Detroit News starts in 1974 and it will only show the name if there was an actual obit, not for a death notice, which is much more common in these papers. At least that has been my experience. If he died in Detroit, I can look him up in the Detroit death index. Ancestry has Michigan Deaths, 1971-96 so he just misses this one. If anyone here knows where I can access Michigan or Wayne County death indexes for other years (besides the Ancestry above and 1920-1988 Detroit death index at Burton), I would really like to have access to that resource. I can also search the entire month of December 1969 and a week into January if I don't find a death date on him. It just takes longer, especially if he is not in one paper and I have to search two, so it could take a couple weeks, because I only go to the library once a week to find him once I start. 3. Fisher in this case was Fisher body. Also a big Detroit Company at one time. If anyone needs/wants genealogical information on Henry Ford, I have LOTS. I just completed a book on the cemetery where Henry and Clara are buried. In working on the book which is NOT about Henry - but about the cemetery where he is in interred, I did do research on Henry and his line of Fords. So if you need help with genealogy on the Fords email me. 2. Doreen G.
    3. Hi Listers: Could SKS please look for a marriage registration that would have taken place in Sault Ste. Marie, Chippewa Co., between August 1895 and January 1896. The couple were John Joseph GAGNIER, born in Aurora, ON, age 24 and Cecilia Anna McGRATH (sometimes McGraw), born in Uxbridge, ON, age 23. This would have been an RC marriage. His parents were: Oliver J. Gagnier (deceased) and Sarah Ellen Blakely whose second husband's surname was Nolan. Her parents were: Michael J. McGrath (deceased) and Mary Jane Blakely whose second husband's surname was Connolly. Thanks so much for your help. 1. [MIGEN] Sault Ste Marie questions
    2. Doreen G.
    3. Mary Jane Blakeley and her husband Michael J. McGrath (my paternal grandparents) & 4 children moved from Uxbridge, Ontario to Sault Ste. Marie about 1872 where they had a farm. After Michael's death, Mary Jane remarried to a Frank Connolly and - much to my surprise, had two additional children. Frank died April 11, 1913 and Mary Jane died February 8, 1925. Mary Jane, Michael McGrath and Frank Connolly are all buried in "St. Mary's at Riverside Cemetery, Sault Ste. Marie, MI" according to obituary notices. Could SKS please tell me if this cemetery is adjacent to St. Mary's Church? If not, where is it and could you give me the address where I might write to them. Also, which would be the correct address for St. Mary's Church as I have found these two: 1) 377 Maple St. Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783 2) 320 E. Portage St. Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783 Thanks so much for your help. Cheers! 1. [MIGEN] Found- Oscada Co Land Records
    2. Hi List ! Ive just subscribed specifically to tell you that I found today in an antique store in central Illinois what surely are Original land transfer records. There are 3 large ledger books, about 12 x 20 & 3 " thick, saying Oscoda Co on the binder. I had time to look thru 2 of them, and there are entries from 1850's to 1880's. One appears to be an index, the other, columned entries of Grantor and Grantee. Some of these Grantee's show as United States, Michigan, Auditor General and individuals w/ various hometowns, 2 of which are Detroit and Cleveland. There are columns that refer to other pages and listings, but nothing that appeared obvious as to describing where and how much land was being transferred. I only had a quick look before they closed, but I'll be going back at 12 N CST on Sunday to check out the 3rd ledger. I found out the owner of these is the store owner. The price tag is $127.00 each, but the manager suggested I could make an offer. She also stated that these apparantly were about to be tossed when picked up. My opinion is these should be saved and hopefully by someone or preferably some organization that will be a proper caretaker for all time and in their home location or County. I will endevour to make sure this happens, hopefully at a cost that is reimbursed to me, and without profit. Is anyone interested? Its OK if you want to fwd this to others in the area who may have an interest. Regards, Mike in AZ ( IL for now ) ( a Czech Lister )

    1. [MIGEN] Just an update.....
    2. I hope this is the correct way to do this. My computer crashed approximately 6 weeks ago and I lost ALL email addresses, etc., everything. I am trying to retrieve it all, if possible, but it is a slow, tedious, and frustrating process. If I repeat myself in a request or you are waiting for me to find something for you, please remind me of it. We finally got our sons' PC hooked up to the internet - I had an iMac, so this has been quite an adventure. Thanks so much for your understanding and patience. Debbie Miller Holth Arkansas

    3. Early Saginaw County Marriages Transcribed from: Records for the county of Saginaw, Michigan Territory, 1835-1864 - Saginaw County Clerk http://www.mifamilyhistory.org/saginaw/earlymarriages/ These early Saginaw County marriages were found in the first book of the county clerk which is on film. Some pages are faded and hard to read, spelling was sounded out in parts of the records and is interesting to see. The marriages in this book only go to 1847, although it is titled to include up to 1864. There are 100 records in this set of Saginaw vitals. The records include areas such as Tuscola, Bay, Gratiot, and Genesee Counties which were part of Saginaw County at the time. There are also some Oakland Co. people listed.
