    3. Dear Listers, I'm new to MI genealogy and would like to ask a question. There's a SSDI listing (1983) that may be for the man I'm searching. Is it possible for a volunteer in MI to look up the full record of death if I make a request? Thanks for your help. Joan Canada

    1. [MIGEN] Old Directories, yearbooks, member lists, etc.
    2. Susan Kaufman
    3. Have old books? ******************************** Do you have old yearbooks, club membership lists, church membership lists, alumni directories, business, fraternal, professional organization directories, any type of book or booklet that list people? Are they taking up space, but you can't bring yourself to throw them out? Well, don't throw them out - there is a place for them! Where can I send them? ********************************** The Historical Genealogy Department of the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne, Indiana is interested in them. We are one of the largest genealogy collections in the United States. People visit us for all over, including from foreign countries, looking for their families and ancestors. Only have recent years? ********************************** Do you think we don't want your stuff because it is too recent? Wondering what good a 1998 directory might do a family history researcher? Many directories list members that were born in the early part of the 20th century or before. Increasingly researchers are looking for people born in the early 1900's. These directories are very helpful. These directories help place a person in a location at a specific time. Not only do they list names, they help the family history researcher find out more about their relative; what type of organization, business, interests and hobbies they might have had or been involved in. We are a permanent home for your materials *************************************************** Of course we are also interested in older, more historical materials, but a lot of us don't have those. (But if you do, think about donating those too!) This is a great way to clean out your valuable stash of things you really know you need to part with, but can't. By offering them to the department, it is like putting them in an attic. They will continue to be available, not only to you, but to others that might benefit from finding a relative, a basic goal of genealogical research. The genealogy department will be its permanent home. We don't discard our any thing we add to our collection. Let us be your attic or garage. ************************************* Think about it; let us be your attic. If you have materials you are not sure of, please contact me and we can discuss it. If you have materials you would like to send, we would enjoy housing them. Note: Arrangements can be made for postage. Where do I send them? ********************************* Materials should be sent in care of Susan Kaufman, Allen County Public Library-Genealogy, PO Box 2270, Fort Wayne, Indiana, 46801-2270. To discuss your collection, please contact me at: 260-421-1225 or by email: skaufman@acpl.lib.in.us. 2. Janice R Freeman
    3. From: Janice R Freeman mcdade-dna@juno.com To: ALL McDADE Descendants Announcing: McDADE-DNA Project Visit: the Sept McDade Clan Davidson home page at mcdade.bravepages.com and go to the: McDade Surname DNA Project page under Table of Contents If you have questions, contact me at McDADE-DNA@juno.com You can read more about DNA Testing through the Links at mcdade.bravepages.com or FamilyTreeDNA.com. We are inviting Y O U to participate in our McDADE-DNA Project which we are expecting to be a valuable asset to our paper trail research to show how our various McDADE lines throughout the world may be connected thru : 1. your direct participation if you are a direct line McDADE male descendant (direct male in your McDADE line all the way back to your earliest known McDADE ancestor, including yourself) by participating in the DNA testing. OR 2. your indirect participation (because you are or became a male descendant of a McDADE daughter at some point in your McDADE line OR are a McDADE daughter) by finding the fathers, brothers, uncles, nephews, cousins that are direct line male McDADE descendants in your family and urging them to participate under 1. above. First, if it is at all possible, please participate in the 25 marker test as this gives us a much better analysis of the known, possible, or potential relationships. Each and every participant is an important link in connecting our various lines whether our ancestor was an early arrival in the 1600's or 1700's or a later arrival in the 1800's or 1900's in Australia, Canada, England, New Zealand, USA, etc. Our ancestors may have come directly from Scotland or via Ireland, but with McDADE as the primary spelling, we are probably all cousins in one way or another. You may contact me at any time if you have questions. There is no medical connection with any of this, just a check on the male DNA markers that are passed father to son almost intact for many generations, with an occasional mutation. It is especially important to have a male participate (regardless of age) if the male is the only or one of two male McDADE descendants of a father, grandfather or great grandfather. Unfoutunately, the daughters can not do this for this particular easy, efficient, and economical test. I hope you will participate in the launching of this great project for our McDADE's everywhere. Please inform others you feel should be contacted or send me names, e-mail addresses, and or snail addresses and phone numbers for other McDADE kin. I can't wait to see how our markers reveal our potential relationships, especially if many of you will select the 25 plus marker DNA test. 3. This is a multi-part message in MIME format. If you can read this line, your email software does not support this format. --MyFaMiLyMiMeBoUnDaRy02292000 Content-Type: text/plain Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit The Thornapple Kellogg High School & Middleville Public Library has in their possession some fantastic genealogy information. Part of that collection includes several years of the Middleville Sun newspaper. The years available are 1890 to 1914, approximately 22 years. This newspaper was very inclusive and covered a very large area; Middleville, Caledonia, Wayland, Hastings, Irving, Rutland, Leighton, Thornapple, etc. as well as some national news. They are full of interesting advertising for local businesses. For those researching genealogy, they are full of goings on, listing family names and activities. What a neat way to put fun and facts into research instead of just names and dates. The pages are very brittle and cannot be handled for research purposes. Therefore, I have taken on the project of microfilming and preserving these very fragile documents and making the electronic version available to the public. An independent firm, Northern Micrographics, will be scanning them and converting them to searchable text on CD. You will be able to enter a name and it will be located within the document. It is much easier than searching through microfilm. I hope to make the information available on Rootsweb. The cost to process one year of the newspaper is approximately $1500. This includes preserving the papers for storage once they are scanned. Two years, 1896 & 1897 have already been forwarded to Northern Micrographics. They are awaiting direction to proceed. Therefore, I am soliciting donations from people like you or organizations like yours that would appreciate access to this information. If you are interested in supporting this project, please mail your donation to: Thornapple Kellogg Administration Building Middleville Sun Archive Project 10051 Green Lake Road Middleville, MI 49333 Checks can be made out to the Thornapple Kellogg Schools, please reference the project on your check. I believe all these marriages took place in Jackson County (Grass Lake?). I'm looking for: 1. George Campbell and Cora L. Seikell who married in 1895. 2. William Campbell and Minnie E. ? who married in 1894. 3. Mary P. Campbell who married _?Lee in 1906. What I'm particularly interested in is their parent's names. I'm trying to tie together a family who migrated from Canada. I would really appreciate any help. Thanks, ~Michelle
