Sand Lake (the small town) is in National City Michigan on the eastern side of Michigan. It is located east of highway 61 and north of highway 55. Hale Michigan is to the west and Tawas Michigan to the east. It is a small community built around the lake. We had a cottage on Sand Lake for about 10 years. There is also a lake named Sand Lake in western Michigan. Good Luck.
Hi Sand Lake is in Kent County. If you go to this webpage, you'll learn more than you ever wanted to know about Sand Lake. http://www.multimag.com/city/mi/sandlake/ BTW, I used Google.com and just typed in Michigan Sand Lake. Patti Marino
There was also a village of Sand Lake in Jackson County, Michigan. It existed from the late 1850's up to about the late 1870's. Tony Clemente --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Protect your identity with Yahoo! Mail AddressGuard
There are 3 Sand Lakes in MI. One in Lenawee, one in Monroe, and one in Iosco county. My Atlas is from 1977. The peculiar thing is each is listed with the same zip code 49343. Hi List. I am a new subscriber to your list and would like to do a roll-call of the folk I'm researching. I hope this is permissible, it is not a request for specific information, more a general call for any tid-bit of knowledge regarding the people themselves, and anything known of their descendants. So please, does anyone know of these folk, who were all still alive circa 1920/30s. There are twenty-four names listed, I do apologise, but it is only a one off, thank you. Dorothy Higgins. BECKER. Hi, Does anyone have on loan (LDS, library, local history center) the death index rolls for Michigan after 1930? I'm still looking for the death dates for my Henry and Mary J. Campbell, living in Leoni, Jackson Co., MI for the 1930 census. Henry was 86 and Mary was 79 this census year, so I'm relatively sure that they both died in Leoni shortly after this census enumeration. Their daughter, Mary P. (Campbell) Beck, wife of Harold Beck, was buried in Grass Lake's, West Cemetery in April of 1976. Henry and Mary J. might also be buried in West Cemetery, (giving me their death dates) but I can't get a response from the cemetery to confirm this. Can someone please help me? Thanks, ~Michelle

Is there, or was there ever, a town by the name of Avolenia, Cass County, MI? One of my husband's ancestors, Jeduthan WING, is said to have been buried there, but we cannot find such a place. There is a Volinia, but no Avolenia, that we know of. Maybe we are looking in the wrong place. Or are they one and the same; Avolenia back in the late 1700's, Volinia, currently? Patricia Maher Paw Paw, MI
>From Walter Romig's MICHIGAN PLACE NAMES [available at Amazon.com] Volinia, Cass Co when the township was organized in 1833, Josephus Gard named it Volhynia, after a province in Poland, and believed to have been given in honor of Gn Thaddeus Kosiusko, the Polish patriot... the name was soon reduced to Volenia and the to Volinia; it was given a PO as Volinia on May 8, 1834...renamed Pickett's Corners; the Volinia o was again restored from Jan 13, 186 to Oct 31, 1902... If more would be helpful, please contact me. This is the basic entry.
