Even though the Web site shows 110 years, Michigan did pass a law about two years ago changing it from 110 to 100 years. They are currently "working" on getting it dropped to 75 years. That may take a while. I am trying to help my sister find her father, Howard Anthony Miller. She is in her sixty's and never know him. My dad adopted her when she was little and she never know it. She just found out about him about 5 years ago. so far this is what I have about him. Frank Young (grandfather of Howard Miller) born about 1851, Baden, Germany. Frank lived in Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio in 1880. He lived in Huntington Park City, LA Co., California in 1920. He was married to Elizabeth. She was born in about 1850 Ohio. Her parents were born in Germany. There daughter was Pearl Young. Pearl Young (mother of Howard Miller) Pearl Young born about 1896 in Ohio Married ? Miller who was born in England. I don't know where they were married but Howard Miller and his older sister Sonia born about 1916) was born in Michigan. I think that Howard's father died because I find Howard and Sonia living with there mother and grandparents in Huntington Park City in a 1920 Census. Pearl married next, Arthur F. Daniels born about 1889 in California. They had Donald A. Daniels born about 1924 in California. In a 1930 Census Sonia is not with them and they are still living in Huntington Park City, LA Co., California. Howard Anthony Miller born March 24, 1918 in Michigan married my mother about 1940. I don't know where. The next place that I find Howard is in San Quentin Prison in may 1942. 5 to life. He might of been transferred to Chino prison and I have someone at California Archives trying to find something on that for me. Howard might be dead by now but my sister wants to know. If he is dead she wants to know where he is buried. Does anyone know anything about this family? thank you Sandra maddux@ida.net
If the person is deceased and you are an heir, you can get the birth certificate if it is less than 100 years. Sometimes you have to remind them that the party is deceased and you are directly related. I got one from a city and stated that as a sister, I would be an heir (which may mean decendant, not sure the legal definition of that) but they checked with the state and then sent me the birth certificate. It was for my brother who was born in 1960 and lived only one day. One other place that I forgot to mention for marriage information in Michigan is the DiBean Marriage lists. The DiBeans have spent years locating marriage records and giving them to all of the Michigan GenWeb sites. So while on the MICHIGAN sites, look for the DiBean list for Marriages. This is ONLY in MICHIGAN, and doesn't always tell you exactly where they found the record, but it is a start. The info is a bit bland I am afraid but here it is: Robert and Maria TREBY end up in Washington State as far as I could find and never had children. Samuel TREBY married Velora A. DANIELS of Michigan and also ended up in Washington. Never seemed to have children of their own but did adopt Helen, shown as age 11 in 1920. RC
Looking for information on the family of Robert D. and Nettie Goldsmith Stewart who were married in Saginaw in 1883 and later lived in Pontiac. They ran the Stewart Sweet Shop. Robert was born in Scotland and immigrated to Canada then Saginaw with his parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Robert and Nettie(Madaline name listed in 1920 census) had to my knowledge 6 children: Robert Roy b 1886 Jane Marie b 1894 Clarance Maude b 1890 Thelma b 1895 Sarah M I have lots of information about Robert Roy and Jane Marie however the other children are a mystery. Thanks for any help, Mary Watkins
Hi, Listers: I would appreciate hearing from anyone who may be descendants of James MCKELVEY, who was born in Northern Ireland on August 12, 1831, and died in Ontario, Canada on March 29, 1909. His wife, Mary (HEBNER?), was born in what was then called Upper Canada on February 16, 1832, and died on August 29, 1917. James and Mary had a large family, consisting of the following children: Sarah Catherine married John Thomas SMITH William John married Mary (last name unknown) Mary married Paul (CHAPPELLE?), then William "Bill" WISE Joseph married Lydia (last name unknown) Annie married Ed HUGHSON Robert (died young) Frank (died young) Alexander married Eliza MCCARTNEY Ellen married George EASTMAN Mark married Mary (last name unknown) George married Ann (last name unknown) Alice Ida (did not marry) Some of James and Mary's children emigrated to Michigan in the latter half of the 1800s. Annie and Ed Hughson reportedly lived in Manistique, MI, and did not have any children. William John and Mary had a family of eight: Ida, Mabel, Florence, Alice, Annie, Pearl, Howard and Floyd. Annie was reportedly born in Dansville, MI (date unknown) and died about 1932. She was married to Charles BRAY. Florence was also born in Michigan, but the exact location is unknown to me. Her husband was Frank KERR. They may have had four children. Pearl was married to Jack BROOKS and Cleo (VAN RIPER?). Pear and Jack had a daughter Lucille, who married Sherman VALLAD), and a son Jack, Jr. Howard is believed to have died about 1980. His wife was Tina (last name unknown). I have a photo that might possibly be of William and Mary's six daughters. The Manistique photographer's name is difficult to make out but appears to be spelled something like PROULE. Mary and Paul Chappelle had two children: Bertha and Sydney. I have photos of Mary and Bertha that were taken in Saginaw, MI, by photographer B. KRUPP. I don't know what became of Paul, but Mary later married Bill Wise. My mother tells me that they lived in Huntsville, Ontario, which is where Mary is buried. Alexander was born about 1874. I have a photo of him taken in Manistique by a photographer who went by the name "Howard." Alex and Eliza were married about February 1899. They had two daughters, Vivian and (Nina or Anna), and a son, Harold. Harold reportedly ran a garage in Manistique. Vivian reportedly went to live with her Aunt Annie Hughson when Eliza was too ill to raise her, and Aunt Annie took Harold after Eliza died. Vivian eventually went to California. Ellen's husband George Eastman was born somewhere in Michigan. I have a photo of her that was also taken by "Howard" in Manistique. They had two daughters (names not known) and a son, Thomas. My connection to these people is through Sarah Catherine McKelvey and John Thomas Smith, who were my maternal great-grandparents. I hope that this information will ring a bell with some of you out there. Thank you in advance for assisting me in locating my American cousins. Sincerely, Bryan Gallagher, Toronto, Ontario.

Helen, adopted daughter, female, white age 11, single, born Washington state, father born Michigan, mother born Minnesota. You can go to this site and follow instructions below, to view the census page and also search other census years, etc. This is a site that you have to pay to view, EXCEPT... you can go in the 'backdoor' through this library site, and use it for a while, then there were pop-up a page asking for a password. When this happens, just close the website. Go back to the library page and start over again. They must have a timer that only allows you to search a short time, then they ask for the password, so just keep starting over when that happens. The U.S. census for 1900, 1910 and some other years, are all indexed and searchable at this site ! Good luck, please scroll down for instructions.....also try searching for Robert using his middle name instead of first name, or try both ways. Mary Delta County Library in Colorado has access to Heritage Quest. Here is a link to the library web site and you don't need a password for access. http://www.dcpld.org/ After clicking on this link go to- Web Picks. Next go to- People Next click on- Heritage Quest On the next page you will have access to census images that are indexed. Not all of the 1920 and 1930 are indexed. Rose, Michigan began keeping "official" records in 1867. So ordering death certificates & marriage records from the state after that date is an option. Birth records must be at least 100 hundred years old in order for you to order them in the state of Michigan. The only exceptions are if you have an attorney and can show reason OR if you are NAMED on the birth certificate. I would contact the local genealogy or historical society in the community in which you are researching to locate the names of churches and where that record might be found. You might also try checking the ROOTSWEB web site for that county to see if anything is listed there that would help you. You can go to Rootsweb.com and look for the state link. Click on Michigan. Then on the county once you are taken to the state page. Hope this helps. Hi,does anyone live in the Lake Ann, Beulah area? I need help! I don't get back to Michigan that often. My grandfather was born there and I would like to find some information on him. I understand that the birth records have to be at least 100 yrs. old before they'll let you have a look at them. If anyone can do the leg work for me I'd appreciate it. Thanks! Here's the info: Henry Altman dob 3-18-1891 in Beulah Michigan Father's name: August Altman Mother's name: Mary Altman I can research Mary Altman's lineage but I am totalled stumped with August. His full name is: Johann Friedrick August Altmann - - two N's. It got shortened along the way. I know that August's dob is 8-25-1855 in Germany and that's about it. If anyone out there can help me out...Please do I'd appreciate it very much. Thanks Bonny Altman-Goldberg
