Hi listers, I'm a new subscriber to this list and I may not have the correct list but perhaps someone can point me in the right direction. I'm searching for the birthplace in Michigan of Edmund LeClaire born 1862 to Sylister LeClaire/LeClerc and Agnes Rema who came from Canada, possibly Argenteuil County in Quebec. The only clue I have is an entry on his marriage licence issued in Anaconda, Montana that he was born in "Mich". Thanks for any help anyone can provide. John

Hello, When did Michigan begin to require birth records? I am wanting to request one from 1870 but I'm not sure if it would be a waste of time & money. Lili (Baffrey) Felgar Searching for: Felgar, Felger, Tomac and Filkins Also: Day, Gibson, Heelman (sp) and Baffrey

I sent away for a copy of my grandmother's SS-5 form by social security number. I found out shortly after that I was given the wrong number! So the form I received was not for her! It is for Parmer (sp) Edison Bowman born in Canada in 1864 & lived in Michigan at the time of application. His parents were Hanson Bowman & Sarah Jane Cosby. If anyone can use the information on this, please let me know. Lili (Baffrey) Felgar Searching for: Felgar, Felger, Tomac and Filkins Also: Day, Gibson, Heelman (sp) and Baffrey

Hello Fellow Listers, Forgive me if this is duplicate for any of you. I am planning to forward this to all the lists I have subscribed to. I thought you might like this web site. It gives you access online to several newspapers in North America. I believe there are some for other countries as well. http://www.gergo.com/home/news/newspapers/index.htm Lili (Baffrey) Felgar Searching for: Felgar, Felger, Tomac and Filkins Also: Day, Gibson, Heelman (sp) and Baffrey
If this duplicates some information in an earlier message, I apologize. It's hot, humid, and our house guests just left. I'm finding it impossible to trace any of my mother's Scot ancestors who lived in Michigan. Apparently all were university educated, a rarity in the late 1800s-early 1900s I would think. One branch, MacRae, had a Dr. John MacRae whose mother, Belle MacLean, was my gr-grandmother's half sister. In an earlier posting, I asked if there was any place I could find information about doctors. Now, I'm expanding the request to information about graduates from the U. Of M. Marion Markham

I'm sorry to keep pestering everyone tonight! There is a strong possibility that my husband's grandmother was adopted. It is believed that she was born & raised in Michigan. I wrote to the State of Michigan to request her birth certificate. I received it in the mail today but am a little confused by it. The birth date is not what we thought it was. Also, the birth certificate is in the name of the people who we believe adopted her. It has a doctor's signature at the bottom stating that he was there. Now I realize that the one I received may not even be for the right person. What I'm wondering is....If she was adopted would there be a birth certificate like this filed with the adoptive parents names? Does anyone know how I can find out more about her adoption? Thank you! Hello, I just recieved a birth certificate in the mail for who we think is my husband's grandmother. The enclosed letter said if I had more questions to call them or contact them via their web site. I looked on their web site & found no way to contact them. It was www.mdch.state.mi/us/. Does anyone know how I can contact them via email or would I be safer calling? I just obtained a birth certificate fr who might be my husband's grandmother. We are still trying to determine if she as in fact adopted. This birth certificate lists her parents as Dan Tomac & Rose Stimac. It says they were born in Austria & lived in Painesdale. Mr. Tomac was a miner. This birth certificate is from June 1912 & says that the parents were 24 & 20 years old. Does anyone have any knowledge of these people? Greetings. I discovered a very old newspaper clipping within the pages of a book (actually a set of 3 books) which was published in 1898. The newspaper clipping contains an article on President Lincoln. It is titled: NOBLE TRIBUTE PAID LINCOLN By. Rev. Dr. Joseph P. MacCarthy. INTELLIGENT ANALYSIS Made of Qualities Which Made Greatness of Martyr President. Rev. Dr. Joseph P. MacCarthy, of the People's Church Sunday night delivered an eloquent address on "Abraham Lincoln". =========================================== I am curious as to when the article and the Newspaper clipping was published. It appears to be from Michigan. On the back page there are several articles which appear to be obit notices from the following places: Alma, MI (Darius BELBECK) Ann Arbor, MI Detroit, MI (Schuyler Gardner HODGES) Charlotte, MI (Miss Winifred PRATT) Camden, MI (Mrs. L.M. Rogers, wife of the editor of Camden Advance) Some advertisements, partial- (article was cut out for other side) Allcock's Corn Plasters .. NEW PRIMARY ELECTION LAW ... Will Kalamazoo County try it? I would like to invite you to explore my new website The POORHOUSE STORY at http://www.poorhousestory.com which is a clearinghouse for information about 19th century American Poorhouses. We currently have information there about poorhouses in Van Buren, Kent, Livingston, Lenawee & Macom counties in MI. We have just posted a link to a story about which we think all genealogy & local history buffs in your area should be concerned! It involved the threatened destruction of the historic Macom County Poorhouse building. We only learned of this story (which was written up 5/8/200)today. If anyone can give us updated information it would be appreciated. You can go directly to the article at http://detnews.com/2000/macomb/0005/09/d05-51329.htm or You can find it on The POORHOUSE STORY site at the NEWS ALERTS page http://www.poorhousestory.com/news_alerts.htm or on the MICHIGAN page http://www.poorhousestory.com/poorhouses_in_michigan.htm IF ANYONE CAN UPDATE US ON HOW THIS IS BEING RESOLVED, please REPLY by e-mail. Hope you enjoy The POORHOUST STORY site. Feel free to post any information you may have about that or any other poorhouse ... either on the MESSAGE BOARD or by e-mailing me. The only way this site will grow to include more WISCONSIN info is by kind folks tipping me off to it!!! <grin> Please don't respond to me on this list. (I would get FIRED or SUED by my ISP if I maintained subscriptions to all the e-mail lists on which I post announcements!! <grin>) Thanks, Linda Crannell (aka=The Poorhouse Lady)
