Seeking information re the family of John Edward Wastle JACK, born 28 Dec 1871 in Leith, Midlothian, Scotland to William Stevenson JACK and Johanna WASTLE. John married Emily Maud Wingrave HAWKES (b. 1881) on 16 Sept 1895 in Luton, Bedfordshire, England. In 1901 John was working as a dock worker and living with his wife, children (Emily Ann JACK, born 1898 and Frederick JACK, born 1900) and widowed sister (Johanna Henderson, nee JACK, born 1878) at 113 Bonnington Road, South Leith, Edinburgh. Have not been able to find any subsequent B/M/D/census information re this family. Did they migrate? If so, where? Any leads most appreciated. Carolyn
Hello Carolyn Can't really help with what happened to this family. I couldn't find them in Scotland after 1901 nor could I find any deaths in England for John E W Jack or his son. I did notice, however, that according to the birth index on Scotlands People, his son was registered under the name of Edward, and not Frederick. I had a look on Ancestry's passenger lists but couldn't find them. But I may have missed them. I don't believe that Ancestry has transcribed 20th Century passenger lists for Australia, New Zealand and South Africa but they can be found on Find My Past. I had a look on there but there were too many John Jacks, age unknown, plus a few possible matches which you might like to pursue (it is a pay site). Rhoda - Thank you for your bit of research, particularly the tip about Frederick being registered under the name of Edward, instead of Frederick. I will follow that up myself on Scotland's People. I have searched the migration records at Find My Past but so far have come up empty. I will search again using the son's name as Edward instead of Fred/Frederick. Thanks again. Carolyn
