I am still researching this PETERKIN family but now feel that they may have been in the Leith area for the 1851/1861 or 1871 census.Is there anyone who could please look them up on those census for me?PLEASE!!!! Jane Peterkin and her husband John appear in Kirkwalls 1841 census with 3 children.After that,there was no mention of them.Their youngest daughter Catherine may have been born in McDuff Banff December 1851........thats what she told the enumerator in 1881.But everything else seems to point to Leith. Any help at all might get me in the right direction on this family,so I really would appreciate having someone look into the census. Diane........................Canada
Hi Diane, I am very interested in the fact you are tracing the PETERKIN family. I have Margaret PETERKIN who married Franics UPHAM, a Labourer from England. They came to NZ where Francis worked in the Coal mines. This would have been after 1840 (when NZ started bringing labourers to NZ), and there son Edwin (whose birth is not registered I can only guess at his birth being c1880. I no nothing else which is of useless help as there are numerous Margaret PETERKIN's, unless you have an UPHAM in your files?
