Not at all unlikely in Scotland. The Scots had a very positive attitude to education, for all classes, and it was entirely possible for the son of a tradesman or tenant farmer to attend university. I don't have any references to hand, but there is plenty of information on Scottish education available in many books and journals Catherine On 12/11/2009, at 9:00 PM, midlothian-request@rootsweb.com wrote: > > Tammy: > > Are you certain that John's sons attended Edinburgh University? Correct Catherine! Tammy gave an excellent write-up on John and his sons. Scotland has admiration the world over for their education system. In later years Andrew Carnegie, the Philanthropist from Fife, ensured that boys from poor families could have a good education. To this day that is true. I have a friend who travels to China and Africa giving them the benefit of the Scottish education system. Scots - be proud! Sheila KC England.
