Believe you talking about West Carlton, Edinburgh. (no "h" or "l") Can't locate it exactly on the map, but think it's an area of Edinburgh. I suspect at the time, the area was under the North Leith Registration District. Attached link shows Carlton Hill and Carlton New Cemetary. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=west+carlton+edinburgh&sll=55.955735,-3.140717&sspn=0.101675,0.21183&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Carlton+Terrace,+Edinburgh,+Midlothian+EH7+5DD,+United+Kingdom&t=h&z=16 Andy ----- Original Message ----- From: "William Dunbar" <bill_dunbar@msn.com> To: "MIDLOTHIAN" <midlothian@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, October 25, 2009 9:38 PM Subject: [MIDLOTHIAN] West Charlton, Edinburgh > > Hello: The 1871 census reports that my great grandmother was born in West > Charlton, Edinburgh while her birth is registered in North Leith.
