    3. G'day List One last attempt to find the birth of my Hugh McKENZIE before I visit the UK in April. I had hoped to be able to find our family in the highlands and visit that area whilst in Scotland! Hugh married Elizabeth DOW in Edinburgh on January 31st. 1788. His family may have come from Applecross or Lochcarron according to a family story! Have not been able to find his birth in Applecross, Lochcarron or Edinburgh. Hugh and Elizabeth had five children, May, Helen, Elizabeth and twins Euphemia and Hugh, all born in Edinburgh between 1788 and 1793. Hughs only son, Hugh married Agnes DUFF in Edinburgh on October 10th. 1814 and had seven children, all in Fife between 1817 and 1835. Does anyone have any ideas on finding his birth/family, or any connection to this McKenzie family? Cheers........Bob in Oz

    3. Bob A _quick_ reply and look at my sources, then off to the FHC for a boring time reviewing films and taking pictures of each frame. The FHC has data on their in-house PCs or (via disk sets purchased) that is not all on the familysearch.org, website, in fact most of the BIVRI entries are not included. I found the following data. Have you reviewed the FHC OPR data, I am not sure if they have films for earlier than mentioned in the following entries but a cheque of the catalogue will give up the info. There are 1306 entries for McK and 540 are prior to 1800 all in Edinburgh. I have no interest in this surname, just the postman Bob Cdn ------------------------------- MCKENZIE, May Christening Gender: Female Birth Date: 27 Dec 1788 Birthplace: Edinburgh Parish, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland Recorded in: Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland Father: Hugh MCKENZIE Mother: Elizabeth DOW Source: FHL Film 1066687 Dates: 1788 - 1788 ------------------------------------------- MCKENZIE, Helen Christening Gender: Female Birth Date: 11 Jan 1790 Birthplace: Edinburgh Parish, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland Recorded in: Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland Father: Hugh MCKENZIE Mother: Elizabeth DOW Source: FHL Film 1066687 Dates: 1790 - 1790 ------------------------------------------- MCKINZIE, Elizabeth Christening Gender: Female Birth Date: 4 Jan 1792 Birthplace: Edinburgh Parish, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland Recorded in: Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland Father: Hugh MCKINZIE Mother: Elizabeth DOW Source: FHL Film 1066687 Dates: 1792 - 1838 ------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------- MCKINZIE, Heugh Bir 1705 Scot Midl Edinbu Fa: William MCKINZIE Mo: Hellen HAMILTOUN MCKENZIE, Hugh Bir 1811 Scot Midl Edinbu Fa: Hugh MCKENZIE Mo: Mary BALLANTINE MCKINZIE, Hugh Morris Bir 1839 Scot Midl Edinbu Fa: Andrew MCKINZIE Mo: Isabella MORRIS ============================================= Bob McKenzie wrote: > G'day List > One last attempt to find the birth of my Hugh McKENZIE before I visit the UK in April. 3. Many thanks Bob When I last checked there were no OPR's for that period around the area that my lot were supposed to come from. I am going to book some time with Alastair Mcleod at Inverness Library, who has been able to assit many people I know and has access to many OPR's, so I am told. Have put a visit to my local FHC on my to do list. 3. Bob I take it you have been touch with the Clan McKenzie Society. http://www.clan-mackenzie.org.uk/ Someone on there is building a Genealogical Database of the McKenzies, and it has over 11,000 entries so far.
