Hello everyone, I am new to this list and am researching for a friend. She is planning a trip to Scotland next year and hoping to meet relatives if possible. As the message involves both Aberdeen and Edinburgh, I am posting this to this list and Aberdeenshire. Her great-grandparents were Robert WALLACE and Elspet THOMSON. Robert was born in Scotland c1852 (age 27 on 1880 US census) and Elspet was born 9 Jan 1855 at Aberdeen (daughter of Robert THOMSON and Isabella McCONNACHIE). I don't know if Robert & Elspet married (likely about 1875) in Scotland or USA but they were living at Holyoke, Massachusetts by 1880 US census with eldest daughter Eda Ann WALLACE. It appears that Robert WALLACE died about 1886 (likely in USA) and Elspet returned to Scotland with their 5 children. She remarried 8 Sep 1888 in Aberdeen to William Frost ANDERSON (38-year-old bachelor, upholsterer - son of William ANDERSON, deceased police lieutenant & Agnes FROST). They appear on 1891 Scotland census at Edinburgh: William ANDERSON 40, Elspet "Elsie" ANDERSON 35, Eda Ann WALLACE 13, Elsie Catherine WALLACE 10, Robert B. WALLACE 7, Barbara I. WALLACE 6, Margaret E. WALLACE 4, Viola ANDERSON 2, Isabella THOMSON 70. (Note: All 5 WALLACE children above were born in USA, Viola Blanche Wallace ANDERSON was born 17 Jun 1889 at Aberdeen, and Isabella THOMSON was Elspet's mother.) In 1901, they are still in Edinburgh: William ANDERSON 51, Elsie ANDERSON 45, Eda Ann WALLACE 22, Robert B. WALLACE 18, Barbara I. WALLACE 16, Viola B. ANDERSON 12, plus a [step?]granddaughter Agnes L. WALLACE 3. William Frost ANDERSON died 3 Dec 1915 at Edinburgh. I haven't found Elspet's death or possible remarriage record yet but she was still alive when William died. Elsie Catherine WALLACE died in Canada 1922 and Barbara Isabella WALLACE also in Canada in 1972. I don't know if their siblings Eda, Robert & Margaret WALLACE & half-sister Viola ANDERSON remained in Scotland. I'm hoping someone is familiar with this family grouping and will contact me.
