Hello Liz, Bob and Gretchen Yes, we're all connected to the same family. I was at the GROS in Edinburgh last year and have the earliest as- William LAING married Elizabeth FINLAY 1777 irregularly in Edinburgh and recorded Inveresk p. Children, all born Inveresk p. were David 1778, Jean 1781, William 1783, Janet 1785, William 1788. I have exact birth dates, baptism dates and witnesses. There may have been a child named Pringle, as there is a death of a Pringle LAING in 1821 in Inveresk, (aged 32yrs) with father William LAING. William b 1788 married Jean / Jane ADAMSON 1807 Newton p. Gretchen, your Elizabeth LAING first married Robert ARCHIBALD. Her sister Christian LAING married James ARCHIBALD, who were my gg grandparents. Two sisters married two brothers. Liz, it is wet with wild storms in Sydney, Australia but very humid and hot when the sun shines. Jean, In this case, you and Gretchen are full 4th cousins (4C) as you share the same 3 x g-grandparents. As their two daughters married two brothers, the brothers' parents would also be your 3 x g-grandparents. "Double 4C"? I don't think there is an 'official' designation of the 'double' part. Toni
Gretchen, I think I may have found a record for your Baptie family. On the birth record from Scotlandspeople for Catherine Laing, 1860 the next name on the sheet is a Robert Baptie, April 6, 1863, parents, Charles Baptie, Jane Douglas, married May 15, 1846 or 48 hard to read.
