Hi Janet I've got a copy of the 1881 Census on CD. It says Alexander was Married and that the One-year old child was born in Edinburgh. It can be very hard to read some of the original writing on Census records. The mistake in Alexander's age and Owens/Ovens names may be due to illegibilty or the census taker made a mistake.
