    3. Hi Eliz Thanks for your answer. It is very interesting. At one stage my grandparents lived in Manderstone Place (now demolished, I believe) Shottstown, so it would not be surprising for my father to work from a garage in the same area, even though it was not officially part of Penicuik in those days. You also mention a Miners Welfare Club. I understand that Shottstown was an area of housing for Ironstone miners at the end of the 19th century. The village was erected to house the workers, as the industry expanded. I don't know how long the Club has been in that location, but maybe it was built to be close to what was the miner's housing. The evidence seems to confirm that the car wash was my probably my father's garage. Thanks again.
