At one point I thought we should start discussing off list, but then we wouldn't have had so many Laings join in. Toni was a great help with the cousin line-up and was great to be interested in our discussions. That is how we learn here. For a long time, I sat in the background picking up tips and learning. I don't think I would be as far today if I hadn't jumped in and asked questions and had so many people offer advices. Still working on all the bits and pieces in the tree. I can't wait until March 3 when the one I think will help pull it all together gets back from vacation. We have to be patient until then. Hello all I hope listers aren't bored with this discussion. I have spent a busy weekend looking at the children of William Laing and Jane / Jean Adamson. Have used IGI, then checked all details on censuses and finally had a look on ScotlandsPeople. Here's my conclusions. Child 11. Andrew LAING born in 1830 I can find no trace of an Andrew born or bapt. to William and Jean / Jane. Nothing on censuses or SP. I have taken him out. Child 12. Catherine LAING b 1833. She's not on the 1841 or 1851 censuses BUT on SP Catherine Laing baptised 14 April 1833 in Newton parish with parents William LAING and Jean ADAM. I cannot find any other William Laing and Jean ADAM combination in this time period in this parish. I feel she's "ours". What do you all think? Interestingly, Child 9 John LAING b 1827 doesn't show up on SP. He is definitely with the family in 1841c and 1851c and named as son.
