As it turns out, after I wrote my note last night, I did some thinking, then I did some research on the Genuki site that revealed to me what you are telling me now, that there is a Lerwick in the Shetland Islands. Well, I did a check in the LDS database (just on a hunch), and lo and behold, there they were! At least three generations of Hendersons that I did not have, plus ancestry for Margaret Mail. In fact, I got so many people listed here who lived in the Shetland Islands, cousins, inlaws and all, that I had to quit for the night at one point and start up again today. However, given all that, I still have work to do on links in Midlothian. I still have information on Elizabeth Sinclair to find. A separate contact of mine sent me 1881 census information that shows Robert Henderson's mother and grandmother as living in Dunrossness, Shetland, Scotland with 4 children ages 18, 16, 14 and 12. But Robert, who would have been 20-21, is not here. We also know that Robert and Elizabeth had Oliver Mowbray Henderson in Leith in 1884. My hypothesis is that for whatever reason, Robert had left home to find his way, and made his way to Leith. There I think he met Elizabeth Sinclair and married, with family shortly to follow. So I am working on following up on that. Anyone with any information related to this, let me know. Oh, I love this detective work. It's so thrilling! Doug Flummer Carbondale, Illinois, USA
