I am trying to find BDMs or any census information on John Toall, my father's cousin, who may or may not have been born in Oakbank, Mid-Calder, Midlothian, in the early 1890s. His mother was Helen Clint Toall, and I believe his father was either John or James Toall. Helen Clint Toall died in the mid-1940s, I believe, in Oakbank, Mid-Calder, Midlothian, but she was born in Newton Stewart, Wigtownshire, while her husband was born in Creetown, Wigtownshire, I believe. (Sorry to be so vague with all the I believes, but I don't have any documents to back up any of this.) I just acquired the medal card, which shows only the Victory and British medals, but John Toall also won the MM for valour and was a POW during WWI. His medal was given to the Royal Scots Museum at Edinburgh Castle in the late 1980s by my aunt, Mary Law Anderson Brown Toall, Johnny Toall's widow. (She was from Glasgow, but moved to Oakbank when she married Johnny, who was working for Shell-Mex at Pumpherston). Johnny also received some commendations for his services as a Special Constable, presumably in the Midlothian area. If there is anything on either the Midlothian or Wigtown sites that I can "hang my hat on" to do with John Toall or any member of the Clint/Toall families, it would be appreciated. Maisie Egger
