Hi Listers, My 3x grt grandfather James Nicol was married to Helen Kerr in Edinburgh in 1790. They were subsequently taken to task, in 1791, by the church in Cramond as follows; "This day James Nicol and Helen Kerr were compeared? (called?) before the session and confessed their irregular marriage and produced a certificate of the same dated at Edinburgh 15.5.1790, signed by John Stuart(?), James Nicol his mark and Helen Kerr her mark. James Clark and Jane Campbell witnesses. The moderator rebuked them for their irregular conduct, confirmed their marriage and gave them suitable extortions." Does anyone have information on said John Stuart, why his marriages were Irregular? or know where his records may be kept? Thanks Alex
