    3. In the testament dated 1735 of my 5 x great-grandfather, Andrew KEY/KAY, shipmaster and provost of Kirkcaldy, the following appears as owing to him: John Aitkine, Merchant, £4.10s Scots James Miller, Merchant, £4.10s Scots James Mansfield, £9.00s Scots Alexander Davidson, £9.00s Scots Gavine Drummond, Merchant £9.00s Scots John Simson, Merchant £7.06s Scots ---"all as the rents of shops or stands possesst by them in the Parliament House." Can anybody explain where shops and ?stalls were sited in relation to the Parliament House in those days? I presume Andrew Key was in charge of sub-letting the sites. He was also due £1.0s.10d sterling as his proportion of the salary paid to the keepers of the Parliament House, plus various other sums payable by the Society of the Writers to the Signet, the Lords of Session, the Advocats ("as keeper of their gowns") and "the good town of Edinburgh for furnishing Coall and Candle in the Parliament House."
